Merino wool has long been heralded as nature's best temperature-regulating fabric. With the ability to hold onto heat in cold temps, manage moisture in humidity or during strenuous activity, and dry quickly in any type of wet environment, there's no doubt as to why we choose merino wool for one of our most important layers: the foundation. For chilly backpacking, mountaineering, or skiing trips, and for humid hiking, paddling, and climbing excursions, the Alpine Onset Collection are the base layers you need to keep your temperature in check. Using 83% merino wool with a touch of nylon and spandex for extra mobility, each Alpine Onset piece features a trim fit as your next-to-skin layer for easy layering and efficient temperature control. A flat seam construction prevents chafing, and a lightweight, compact design makes it easy to fit an extra layer or two in your pack. Plus, merino wool naturally blocks odors - making it an easy winner that both you and your tentmate will appreciate.

RATING AND REVIEWS

Highly functional hoody

4

I've been wearing this thing quite regularly. It is warm and functional. It is cut long which I really like, both in overall length and in the sleeves. Just shy of 6' and 170lbs, and a medium is perfect for me. My only beefs with this shirt, which again, is highly functional, are the zipper and how it effects the collar when you are not wearing the hood. I like the zipper length which provides great venting when going up, but it can be kind of finicky to operate with one hand and sometimes feels... cheap... haven't broken it, and probably won't, but it bugs me slightly. When you are not wearing the hood, the collar sort of folds down over itself, and looks a little goofy for those of us who wear the same clothes in public as we do to recreate. Not a deal breaker for me at all... I'd buy it again... and I love the hood when I am wearing it!

The only thing that would make this thing better is if it had thumb loops. But not the thin loops. The same loops that are on the deviator hoody

Love this hoody!

As with many OR products I love this piece because I can use for many activities. So far I've worn it skiing both Nordic and alpine, as an under layer for cold weather running, and under my dry suit while paddling. This winter I'm certain it will be with me everywhere I go.

I like it

This is a great top. The hood is great for skinning with a ball cap on and the temps go from warm in the sun to cool in the breeze. Zip on the hood goes up pretty high across your face which is handy when getting max warmth. It is nice enough to wear at the office as well. My office at least...

This is my go to comfy shirt. Soft material, lightweight, and very warm. Excellent trim fit and good quality.

Great lightweight layer for everyday use

5

This is a great all around layer - I use it for hikes, trail runs, and just around the house. Glad it's a wool layer - shouldn't get that weird synthetic smell. Sleeves are long enough to cover hands in a cold run. Fits nicely.

Unbelievably warm and light

This is my first piece of merino baselayer, and I am sold! It is really warm, light, and breathable. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a new base layer. I used to use a Patagonia R1, and this way out performs it.
