RATING AND REVIEWS

High functioning & attractive shorts

5

Great fit and fabric. Wore 3 days straight in 100+ humid heat under a variety of conditions. Shorts breathed well and allowed full range of movement. Technical product yet suitable for casual wear as well. Another good OR product utilizing the magic of the Ferrosi fabric.

Everything you need in climbing shorts

Looking for lightweight climbing shorts? These are them, great fit, good stretch, and they seem durable.

My favorite all-purpose shorts

5

These are, simply, my favorite shorts. I use them for everyday purposes as well as backpacking and other outdoor activities. They weigh next to nothing, stretch to accommodate movement, dry fast, and seem reasonably durable considering their insubstantial bulk. The 10" inseam falls above the knees with a slimmish fit around the butt and upper thighs. In my experience the material relaxes somewhat with use. In the updated version, you will notice that the lower pocket is now stitched rather than glued on the right leg, and the overall pocket design has been tweaked. The rest is essentially the same. Overall I prefer the fit and feel of the updated version. One thing to note is that they have reduced the size of the thigh pocket, so cell phone storage is pretty much out of the question. Decent for small key sets, I guess, but I rarely use it. The color options are really nice - I have the Pewter and Mushroom, and they work with most of my shirts. I'm tempted to get the Curry. In the past I had issues with these shorts being a full size too large, to the extent where my normal size (34) required a belt to stay up. The 32 in the previous version fit just right. It seems like they may have adjusted the sizing with this update - The 33 in the update feels similar to the old 32, maybe even a hair more snug (in a good way).

The perfect shorts

I wear these shorts rock climbing in the Colorado front range during warm days and they fit well, are very light and do not restrict movement at all. Also, plenty nice enough to wear out and about.

Sizing is TOTALLY off and inaccurate

So disappointed in the Ferrosi pants and shorts. They are supposed to fit true to size but not even close. Measured flat, they are 17.25" across and a 34.5" waist. My waist is 32" and typically size 32 pants still fit large due to companies not going true to size. I typically have to size down one size to a 31. However, OR even confirmed by "Kassie" in the Discussions section of the Ferrosi 10" shorts: Q: My waist measures pretty much exactly 32". Should I order the size 31 or 32? I want these to fit well without a belt, and I find that most size 32 pants and shorts are more like 33" or greater. In Prana for example, size 31 fits my waist perfectly, and 32 is way too loose. So I'm leaning towards ordering the 31, but would appreciate some confirmation! Asked on 5/26/2019 by Dan from NY Know the answer? Answer this question 1 answer CUSTOMER CARE A: our ferrosi shorts are true to list size and don't run large as most companies do, you should be good to go with the 32! Answered on 6/5/2019 by Kassie from Outdoor Research Not the case here! I can fit my fist between my stomach and the waist of the shorts!

Pretty Good

Pretty good overall but I wish the cargo pocket wasn't sewn onto the outside. In the previous version I have, the pocket was a flat zipper with the pocket itself inside the shorts and that looked a lot nicer. Hopefully it switches back on a future version.

Got to shorts for everything

Love the fabric, the length and the pockets. Just a little tight around the buns (30in waist), otherwise they are great!

Excellent Shorts!

I had to return my original size (34) as it was too snug but went up one of my usual size (36) and they fit great now. Love them. I'll probably buy another pair.

Great warm weather shorts

Originally purchased 8" shorts. The fit, lightweight, cool fabric is just great. Ordered more in 8" and 10" length. Best shorts I own, hands down!

So I just received my Ferrosi shorts in the mail today, and fortunately I ignored the answer from 'customer care' and ordered the 31 anyway (I didn't trust it because that answer conflicted with both their own sizing chart, and my experience with OR pants in the past). Good thing I did! Even though my waist measures 32 at the smallest, the size 31 is very loose. I'm actually going to have to exchange these for a 'size 30', because there is over an inch of extra material (probably more like an inch and a half). I say 'good thing' because at least I'm now pretty sure that the size 30 will be correct for my 32" waist.. [Sorry my answer didn't come in time to help Jim from Montana. Jim, and anyone else with a 32" waist, you want the size 30. My guess is the only reason so many people reported this as 'true to size' is that most people are so used to vanity sizing and never measure their own waist so they don't actually know what their waist size is.. ]
