RATING AND REVIEWS

Super warm

5

Hiked several miles in sub 10 degree temperatures with lots of wind and snow, kept me very warm and dry.

Best thing for a cold weather environment ever!

This jacket is awesome! It easily allows you to do away with at least three of the layers of the Army's 7 layer system. I'm easily comfortable with layer one (and 2 for some) and this jacket in 0 to 20 degree weather. If it's raining I'll throw a light hardshell over it. I'm also able to compress it down and it takes up very little space. I will say I ordered a Lg first and it was a bit to snug for my liking. I'm 6'0 210lbs and when I bent over or extended my arms over my shoulders the bottom of the jacket would rise up over my waist. The XL wound up being perfect. I highly recommend this if you plan on spending long periods of time in frigid weather.

Best buy of the winter

5

I bought this jacket because I needed a heavier winter jacket - score. I bought the gray color and I use it for taking my boys to school and before and after ops. Used it for about two months and I can say this is a very warm jacket. Wore it to the snow (45-50° F) and it was too warm for that. Windy mornings, around 20-30°, perfect. I do not layer under this jacket expect for a light long sleeve shirt. You have to know it's not down, so it doesn't pack down small (pun intended). It lofts very well, but is a little bulky. Way less bulky that the military "Michelin Man" jacket. Someone reviewed and said it was like two smoking jackets - close. It's way warmer and thicker than two. This is not going to be great for being active, but standing on scene, when the action's over, this is my go to. I work then throw it on when I start to cool off. I've brushed up against stucco, adobe and rough textured metal and worried the fabric was torn - jacket still looks new. Appears to be two weights of material on the outside and has held up very well. I have recommended this jacket to coworkers and I feel very prepared for worse weather.

wish it had pockets on the upper shoulders like our issued coats.

This thing is seriously warm

5

This jacket is incredibly warm - probably one of the warmest I've ever owned. I particularly like that the neck and face baffles are well-placed, so it really feels like the jacket is really well designed and made. Two minor complaints - like some others have said, the zippers suck. Expect to try 2-3 times before it finally zips. I have the transcendent down hoody, and its got a rock solid zipper..why not use that one. Second, I think it runs a bit small. I liked the fit of the large (I'm 6', 205lbs) in the chest and arms, but it was too tight around the lower waist, where the jacket sits below the beltline. It restricted my movement and made me feel like i was going to pop a seam if i bent over too fast. I ordered an XL, and now can fit a layer or two underneath. Sleeves are a tad long, but the cuffs work well. Overall, I think this is an excellent product, but needs a few tweaks. I would buy it again.

Superior warmth, without the bulk. I am very pleased with this parka, the perfect layer for those long sits while glassing for bears. Would definitely recommend, if this is what you're looking for.

A little heavy, but warm

4

This jacket is warm, but on the heavy side. The insulated hood is a welcome addition when the wind kicks up. It would be best used during relatively stationary activities where you don't have to worry about hauling the weight around in your pack or on your body. Fit is pretty true to size. I'm 6'1" and 190lbs and the large fits me well. The hem is a little tight, but not bad, and the arms are long enough that I can reach overhead without being too long when my arms are at my sides.

Multicam for Days

5

OR has some amazing products in their military line, but don't triple the price just because they're offered in multicam or drab colors. This coat is built from the same fabrics and insulation as the Dead Bird brand, but sells for half the price. And being OR, the quality is on par and the customer service is a head above. Figure out sizing before ordering though. I'm 6' y'all and trim. I wear Small in Arcteryx but Medium in OR, very consistently. The medium size in this jacket allows it to be worn over several layers or an external vest carrier.

Warmest coat I've ever owned

4

I love this coat. It's lightweight and tremendously warm without being bulky. The hood is effective for use with a helmet or without. I particularly like the folding brim. The neck baffle helps keep heat in when the coat is slightly unzipped. My only negative is the 2 way zipper. It tends to come unlocked at the bottom after movement. Not sure if it's a design flaw or perhaps a fault with mine. Otherwise I would give this jacket 5 stars.

I would like to know if the Colossus Parka is very compressible? Thank you!

Fabrice

Hi Fabrice, The Colossus Parka should compress down to a small pillow or a little bigger than an American Football. Thanks for contacting OR,

Paul
