i took this into northern Ontario during black fly season

a nine day trip by canoe picked up by float plane. I was sad when this hat was washed out of my pocket when the boat overturned in a rapids. Portages were not pleasant after that.

Great Hat!

I'm an avid hiker, backpacker, camper, and, boater. When I got this hat a few years ago I knew it would be perfect. This hat was perfect especially for the Adirondack mountains of the Northeast. Great to use during hot humid days(summer 2012) and any back country. Best of all it keeps mosquito's out.

Excellent Bug Protection

I bought the Bug Bucket back in 2009 after borrowing a regular over-the-hat bug net in 2008 to keep the Southern Utah juniper gnats away from my face. For those who do not know, juniper gnat is the local name for no-see-ums, and they get unbearably thick for about a month every summer. They are not deterred by DEET, citronella, Woodcutters, or anything else that is supposed to repel insects. This is the best bug net I've ever used. It is relatively easy to see through (if perfectly unobstructed vision is your goal, you should probably stick to sprays), very well-built, and very rugged. I hike off any paths in the back country in dense vegetation for survey, and have yet to tear a hole in the mesh. I also used the net in Guatemala when I was helping out a colleague, and found the hat to be very breathable in spite of the humidity.

Fits well, stores easily into small carrying case. Works well to keep mosquitoes off of face. Cons: hard to see through. It would be good if the mesh were easier to see through, other then that, it does the job.

Cannot see properly out of the mesh net

I purchased this for a trip to SE Asia. This hat fits well and stores nicely into a tiny pouch. Unfortunately the mesh net is hard to see through, and after wearing it for 10 minutes my eyes got really tired, so I took it off and went with the old fashioned DEET spray. For casual use it is a little of an overkill. I can recommend it if you are allergic/opposed to DEET and are looking for a natural way to fend off insects. But the fact that I could not see through the net comfortably killed the deal for me.

Perfect Hat

I sent the mosquito hat to a friend in preparation for her visit to Thailand which is a mosquito ridden place! Just kidding, but she seemed very happy with the hat and it looked like a great product: lightweight, with a very fine mesh that would drape all the way over one's shoulders, and completely stitched within the nylon hat.

Bucket Good, Not Bi

Loved it when the bugs were around in Costa Rica. However, there's no satisfactory way to get the netting out of the way in between buggy times: to gather the net all up around the top of the hat is ugly, clumsy and in-the-way; to bunch it inside the hat makes it uncomfortable and ill-fitting, so I just put the hat away and used another at such times. I really wish they solved this problem so that I could wear it happily with or without the bug defenses down, and didn't need to pack a second hat. Until this problem is solved, I would prefer a separate head net. Nonetheless, good quality stuff.
