It was great hiking in the rain. I would like for it to have pockets and pit zips.

Title says it all. I no longer have an excuse to not bring a rain jacket on all of my trips into the outdoors, because this thing packs so small and weighs nothing. Solid protection from rain and snow in a pinch. Probably less durable than some heavier rain wear, but that's to be expected from a jacket that can disappear into your pack until you get home.

Like Water Off a Duck's Back!

5

Very light weight, bought this for backpacking. Used in in heavy, continuous rain and it was absolutely great! The material itself does not get wet, it somehow sheds water completely, so when rain is over, just give it a quick shake and it's dry, ready to be packed up. It's a single-layer shell, simple, light, packs up very small, no inner layers to get damp and hold water. I am 5 foot 10 inches, 145 pounds, and the medium was just roomy enough to go over a fleece sweater and a thin (1 inch thick) down hoodie.

It goes the distance!

I wore the Helium 2 for over 24 hours straight during the 2018 Leadville Trail 100 Run. It is the perfect combination of waterproof protection and lightweight breathability. I wore it when it was raining and also when it wasn't. Anything less than the Helium 2 isn't enough protection from the Colorado elements, and anything more just isn't necessary. Can't recommend this enough as an all purpose trail running shell for rain and wind. I'd love to try out some of OR's other gear this winter.

The Best UL Rain and Wind Protection

5

This is the best light weight rain jacket I have come across by far. I bought this jacket used it one week and lost it. I immediately bought it again! I prefer it over other models by Patagonia etc.. This is the very best and lightest weight rain/wind protection I can find! I love it and love the copper color. Great to always keep in your daypack for when the weather turns. I actually use more to keep warm when the wind picks up, than for rain. Absolutely love it!

Lightest weight rain jacket

Helium 2 rain jacket is one of the best LIGHTWEIGHT rain jackets that I've owned. Living in South Florida, the heat and humidity can be the highest in the US, so you want the lightest jacket available. This is one of them. Breathability is not as good as GoreTex, but Helium 2 is much lighter. The only thing it needs is cuff Velcro for adjustment. The elastic is fine, but adjustable cuffs would have been sweet. Slash pockets also would have been great. The color I bought was Coyote. I like the color, but wish it was more a matte finish and less shiny. That's a personal choice. The Foray jacket is matte finish and very nice, but it's a little heavier and longer. I also own two OR Foray rain jackets in both Coyote and Fatigue. Extremely happy with Foray. I will be buying a Helium 2 rain jacket in all black.

I am 5'7", 200lbs, 45" chest, 18" neck, 33" sleeve, 37" waist. Your product does not indicate sleeve length. I am thinking of XL. What would you suggest?

Rob

Hi Rob, If you plan on layering underneath the jacket a size XL may be best. The sleeve length of the jacket is 37.75", it is measured from the center back neck seam to the center of the cuff (straight measurement). Thanks for contacting OR,

Paul

Hey There, I have a Helium II, and love it! It seems that it is aging (to be expected given the use it gets) and the water does not quite roll off it the way it did when it was new. Do you recommend any sort of waterproofing spray, or wash treatment, to bring new life to my jacket? Thank you!

Kurt

Hi Kurt, Have you washed the item recently? Washing your waterproof gear can drastically improve its performance, as oil, dirt, and grime can actually clog the fabric's pores, causing the fabric to absorb moisture instead of repel moisture. Try washing your jacket with a tech wash (we recommend Nikwax Tech Wash) and following up with a double rinse and tumble dry on low. The heat of the dryer works to reactivate the fabric's DWR, increasing water repellency. You may also try Nikwax TX.Direct Wash-In to revive the water repellent properties. If the problem persists then you may have a defective jacket, which we would be happy to replace. Please keep us updated and thanks for contacting OR! Paul

Have this jacket and love it- but the repellancy seems to be wearing off. What's the recommended waterproofing? (nikwax wash, revivex spray. Etc?)

Try washing your jacket with a tech wash (Nikwax) and following up with a double rinse and tumble dry on low. The heat of the dryer works to reactivate the fabric's DWR, increasing water repellency. Good morning, I was wondering if this jacket is pretty shinny or a mat colour? Thank you

Oct

The Pertex Shield Plus fabric we use in our Helium series is a bit reflective - definitely more "shiny" than "matte."

Jordan

How shinny is the coyote brown? Or is it more of a mat colour?

Oct

The fabric on all of our Helium jackets is a little bit reflective, regardless of the color.

Jordan

what is the length of the Helium II in size M? neck seam to hem i suppose.

Thomas

The Men's Helium II Jacket in size Medium has a center back length of 27.5".

Jordan

What is the best way to renew my helimum II jacket's water repellent as my jacket is no longer as water proof as it used to be..

Martin

Try washing your jacket with a gentle, non-residue-leaving detergent like Nikwax Tech Wash and follow up with an extra rinse cycle and tumble dry on medium. After you wash the jacket, you could also use an aftermarket DWR like Nikwax TX.Direct to revitalize the jacket's water repellent coating. Both of these steps should make your jacket noticeably more waterproof.
