RATING AND REVIEWS

Great Mitts for Cold Powder Days

5

Used these gloves recently for a snowy day skiing in Tahoe. They worked great, kept my hands warm and dry. Temps were between 12-16 throughout the morning, and it was windy and snowy all day (so much so that only 1/4 of the lifts were open, and the resort had to close at 1pm). Would recommend these. Didn't seem too bulky. Really like the cuffs that keep them attached when I take them off.

Well designed, but a bit bulky

I love the southback mitts, but a few notes: Should be worn with liner gloves! Not as warm as they look because of the way they fit -- its a nice thing to have some room in the glove but these are a bit bulky. Also, the sizing is UNISEX sizing so I had to return the first pair thinking they were womens -- my mistake but don't make the same one :) These gloves have been great so far. I ride at Baker and they are staying nice and waterproof so far. Not so warm that they can't be worn on a regular 30 degree Baker day, but easy to put liner gloves into for when its 10 degrees outside. Have to take them off frequently to do anything detailed, but the cuffs make this SUPER reasonable. They are my new dailies :)

Used these for service calls to properties that have lost heat in Chicago for the past two days of record lows. Wore a thin liner glove underneath and these mitts kept the -20 degree air temps at bay and helped my hands warm up after doing repair tasks. Bought them for skiing but worked great.

Great gloves but be sure to check unisex sizing

Super impressed! Wore these for a walk in -30 degrees celsius and my hands were perfectly warm! The only con is that they fit a little wide! But length is good (5' 10" female, ordered size M).

Warm, comfy and convenient

Awesome for resort days. Love the wrist straps - they don't get in the way, but I don't have to worry about losing a mitten while taking them on and off. My fingers/hands have stayed super warm and dry - plenty of room to pull your fingers into a fist to stay warm on the lift, but they're not overly bulky, either. Overall comfy, warm and keep my hands dry.

Good mitts overall!

Bought these for skiing because I have super cold hands all the time! Not quite as warm as I expected, without liner gloves I'm only warm to about 30 degrees in these, but with liners they seem to do the trick when it's colder. Definitely big and bulky but still have decent dexterity. Love the color, how soft they are on the inside, and of course the wipe-your-nose thumb :) I'm right on the line of small and medium in OR glove/mitten sizing, so I bought these in a medium and my liner gloves in a small, and even with liner gloves they're still surprisingly big-feeling, so I would say if you're on the cusp go for the smaller size.

Gore-tex will keep you dry and these will keep you warm. They are too warm for me on most days in the PNW, but I tend to run hot. Bombed construction and good fit

I have used these last week to hike in the snow in the Chic-chocs in gaspé québec. They kept my hands warm. When my hands became too hot, a pair of thin liner gloves kept the sweat from building up. When my hands were cold the same liner mitts warmed up my hands nicely. The wrist straps were great for allowing me to drop the gloves and fiddle with the straps on my pack. If i stashed them in my pack and pulled them out later they warmed my hands quickly. I didn't think the pocket on the top was of much use but it turned out to be the perfect place to keep my park pass in. And in this park, we were stopped twice by park wardens asking to see our pass. They were also impressed by the little pocket on the gloves.

I teach skiing and I have to take gloves on and off constantly throughout class. I am outdoors on snow, all day long, all season long (I know great life right?) I never know what my students will need, what the weather requires etc. These mitts are very versatile to be worn, not worn (wrist straps are so helpful) with liners or without liners. I also use power tools when setting up for classes and these allow me to handle that job as well. Very thick, durable, and very warm. Superior to any other mitt I've used.

Love these mitts!

Picked these up for snowboarding & wintery hikes. They don't disappoint - stylish, comfy and durable. Only "complaint" would be that they are almost too warm (I tend to run hot while doing anything so this is definitely not a defect). Fantastic Gore-Tex mitts at a great price.

Do these mittens have glove/finger liners - or mitten liners?

the southback mitts have a mitt interior

Q&A_Admi

Two Questions - My hands are wider than long. I have a 8.5 circ. and a 7 length. Should I get the Medium or large? Also - I'm getting this as a Christmas gift so I wont be able to try them on till Christmas... which is over 30 days away. Can I still return them after Christmas (If they are the wrong size) or should I wait and buy them in Dec?

Eric

Hi Eric, We would recommend going with the Large due to your hand circumference measurement. With excess fabric in the fingers you may have difficulty with grip or grasping items, but if the gloves/mitts are too narrow across the knuckles it would restrict movement/dexterity. You may return the mitts after the holiday season. Thanks for contacting OR,

Paul
