RATING AND REVIEWS

Great jacket...didn't fit me right

3

Unfortunately had to retune this jacket due to the slim fit...I am not a huge guy (6'1", 215#s) but even the XL in this (very slim cut) jacket didn't work for me around the middle. This is the only reason I didn't give 5 stars for my review....also, I have a 6'4" wingspan and the sleeves fit great!! which is always hard given my body type..so I was sad to do it, but had to return it. I am going to leave the "recommend to a friend" blank because after seeing, and trying on the jacket, it would totally depend on the friend, you know what I mean

Nice trim, and breathable

The Ascendant reminds me of the Atom LT, but is more breathable, and the Polartec Alpha doesn't make the inside of the jacket feel clammy on the skin like the Atom LT can. The Ascendant doesn't protect against wind as well as the Atom LT, and both are equally water resistant from what I can tell in my owning both.

Can't stop wearing this piece

5

I bought this item 11/18 and have been wearing it almost every single day since then. I mostly wear it inside my home or casually around town. I have worn it when warming up before playing soccer, hiking, and running. It layers well over a long sleeve base layer and under a tough shell like the Ferossi. The Ascednant is perfect comfortable jacket over a base layer for a good cardio workout or use it a layering piece when not exercising. It does ok with mild wind and sprinkles of rain. I'm 5'6" 150lb and have a medium. Its slightly loose on me and probably should've gotten a small because I would like a tight fit.

Great simple jacket

Nice simple jacket with some warmth with the lining. Great for around town. I think its like a shell with a thick cotton lining for warmth

My new go-to for airport travel and spring camping

5

This jacket is impressive for just about anything. Looks good in the office, is goober/liquid resident in an airport, and is super comfortable to wear on a plane. But then it's equally as comfortable in the backcountry. Wore an OR fleece underneath it overnight in NM's Gila Wilderness (late March), and hiked with it for cool mountain mornings. Was warm but not too warm (even with a big backpack on) and didn't even get sweaty when it started warming up (~50F) out in the sun thanks to the breathability. The only thing it didn't do well with is in a sleeping bag. I thought it would be soft enough to not goof up airflow in the sleeping bag but that wasn't the case. I turned clammy and chilled after a few hours. It was a bit snug and puffy with a light down jacket underneath it (size M), but it worked for staying warm when sitting around camp.

Awesome midlayer jacket

4

I have used this jacket as a mid-layer or outer layer during Fort St. John's (northeast B.C.) last weeks of winter, below -10C, and found it pretty warm. Also used it ice fishing on sunny days and was pretty cozy just wearing a 200 merino base layer and this jacket over it. One time I fell while hiking and expected this jacket to be shredded on the rocks, but there wasn't a single puncture on it! The one thing I would improve on this jacket is having the zippered portion that covers the front of the neck being tapered down from the back of the neck, so when you are wearing it zippered to chest-height the zippers are not rubbing against your jawbones/cheeks. And maybe a different fabric for the collar, so it could be folded down.

Favorite layer

Favorite layer. Extremely breathable great for all types of activities. Liked it so much I got a second without a hood.

Nice jacket but...

4

Nice jacket but the insulation grabs whatever you are wearing underneath. Every time I put it on it pulls my sleeves up very annoying. Needs a light interior lining. Other than that great jacket very warm for how thin it is.

I must be an outlier

3

This is a really nice jacket, but I found it too hot for my intended purpose (backcountry skinning on a cold day). Even on an 11 degree day I somehow managed to get too hot. So if you tend to run hot like me this jacket might not be the answer. On the flip side, it is a great mid layer for less sweaty activities like downhill skiing.

Discussions

Is this jacket able to be packed down to a small size for travel?

Nick

Nick, the ascendant does pack down pretty small for a synthetic insulation layer, think a nalgene size

Q&A_Admi

I have yet to find the key clip. where is it??

Lee

Hi Lee, The key clip is located inside the left hand pocket. Thanks for contacting OR, Paul

Are the external pockets with zippers? Prior description said no zippers, now pictures look like zippers.

Gustav

Hi Gustav, Sorry for the late response. The hand pockets do not have zippers The only zippered pocket is the chest pocket. Thanks for contacting OR, Paul
