Nice lightweight vest

Great vest for layering in all seasons. It's not overly thick and bulky, like some vest, but provides great insulation to your core. I personally love bests for high-output activities such as mountain running, but I have even used this vest under a shell to add a bit of warmth while skiing. Great piece!

Great Vest

I'll admit, I first purchased this vest as an impulse buy as opposed to seeking this vest out for my specific needs (therefore no vested interest in the product). Overall this vest is excellent and exceeded my expectations. It's two best benefits are that it is warm and insulates very well and it is lightweight and packs down very small (especially when combined with an OR Air Purge DrySac). I've used this vest on a 5 day hiking trip in British Columbia, and during 5-10˚C weather with on/off rain showers, I combined the vest with a long underwear baselayer, gloves and a hard shell and I was very comfortable and kept at a fairly stable body temperature despite the weather conditions. Fits great and will recommend for hiking, skiing, and exercising on colder days. The only con is the side pockets do not have zippers so depending on what it is combined with, it may be difficult to store a pair of gloves or hat.

Great outdoor styled vest

Nice vest that is warm enough without being too warm. It breaths well while also shedding a light sprinkle of rain and blocking the wind. This will be a great functional piece for my outdoor pursuits.

Great vest

The only reason i gave it a 4 star rating is that it was advertised as all the features of the ascendant jacket without the sleeves, but they left out the elastic draw cord hem

Finally, a vest for backpacking!

I am always searching for layers that dont have zippers right on your hips. Don't people backpack? A zipper right on your hip with a waistbelt pulled tight spells OWW! This problem can be solved by moving the zipper up or not having them at all. A vest mid layer seems like a very appropriate layer to not NEED zippers on. Thanks OR for answering my prayers.

Number one Vest I Own!

I bought the Ascendant Vest for primarily backcountry skiing. I always get too hot when skinning and wanted to try a vest. However, I wear this vest all the time now to work, bars, resort skiing, hiking, skinning, etc... It is a really great all around. It is very warm for its size, but you can unzip it and it releases a lot of heat. I also wore it during a snow storm around freezing temps. The flakes would melt on the vest and bead up and fall off much like the OR rain jackets. I was very impressed with it! I have not seen any wear and tear after wearing it multiple times a week in adversed conditions for the last few months, however I worry that the interior of the vest might not hold up as well. But, nothing has proven this and I honestly don't expect it to as all products from OR have been spectacular.

I would not buy this product again

It's the perfect vest for having a cup of coffee , anything more than that it's worthless .

Slimmer Fit for XL than would like

Fits but super slim and tight around chest and waist. I'm an XL 38" waist and 42" chest and this is probably designed for taller, thinner/fitter men.

I use this jacket all of the time in all conditions. Skiing, hiking, running, biking. It is my go to jacket.
