This is the best piece of insulation I own, and I own a lot. Its extremely comfortable and performs very well in many situations. Whether hiking, climbing, fishing, working outside in mild temps. This is the jacket you want. I am 6' 3" 220lbs and I wear the XXL. This gives me enough room for my radiant hybrid under and my maximus over if its cold and rainy. I cant speak highly enough about this jacket and OR.

It is very lightweight warm jacket. It fit perfectly.

I really like this jacket

It is very light dawn jacket. Fit perfectly.

Fits great. I like the headband cinch on the hood.

Snagged on a briar and the ripstop kept the damage to a minimum.

I would buy this product again

Got this product on sale and its an excellent value. The fit is athletic and it keeps me warm in the Canadians winters. This jacket also is light enough to be worn as a mid layer under my OR Ski jacket. I have been skiing in the Canadian Rocky Mts for two seasons. Its a great piece of my cold weather system and I use it as a stand alone for mid/high tempo outdoor activity in the winters where we usually see between -20 to -50'c

Perfect NW outer

I have puchased 4. Two were gifts, two for me. These are excellent for the Pacific can rain 100 days in succession. I walk the dog every day. The Cathode breathes well, and keeps my fleece layer dry.

Superb lt. weight jacket

Sorry to report the best use of this jacket so far has been sleeping in it with the hood up in the ICU in my girlfriend's room after she suffered a stroke. The keep these rooms freezing cold so I'd walk in from outside and wore this the whole time I was in the hospital. I haven't worn it much outdoor yet. I wish it we're a bit warmer but I don't want more weight. I plan to layer Merino underneath and maybe a Helium over for super light Himalayan travels. It's a 5 star piece. Packs into it's own pocket.

Great Insulated Layer for Activity in Fall/Spring

I just returned from a week of hiking, climbing, and BASE jumping in Moab. The temperatures in the morning and evening were in the low to mid thirties. This jacket, with a light sweater underneath, was plenty warm even while sitting still. Once active, the jacket on top of a base layer alone was plenty warm. The hood is comfortable and adjusts nicely for peripheral vision. The jacket was durable and showed no wear even after a week of scrambling around the desert sandstone and wearing a backpack or parachute over it. Quite pleased.

Phenomenal Puffy

Big fan of this puffy - the DWR keeps the rain off, and the side vents help me avoid overheating while keeping me warm. The only strange part is the sizing, I'm typically an M or an L, but I'm an XL in this jacket just due to the length and the sleeves - I'm 6'5" inches and 160 lbs, and this fits me perfectly. Anything else and it'd be too small.

Great Product, disappointing sleeve length

I own many OR jackets, all in a medium. This jacket's sleeve length is about two inches shorter than any of my other ones. Sleeves constantly ride up. Too bad because it is otherwise an awesome piece.

Hi there, I have looked into this new jacket and it seems very similar to my uberlayer.... I am wondering what the differences is in layman's terms. Is it warmer? More compact?

Hi Patrick, Both jackets are part of our active insulation series. Keeps you warm when you're not moving, and keeps you cool when you're active. The Uberlayer is a heavier, warmer jacket (more insulation) that features a better adaptable temperature regulating insulation (Polartec Alpha). The Cathode jacket is a lighter, warm jacket that features an exposed stretchy area for ventilation (soft-shell material on the underarm panels), it has better water resistant properties due to the Pertex Quantum treated nylon. The Ascendant Hoody is the little brother of the Uberlayer. It's about the same weight as the Cathode, but features Polartec Alpha Direct. It's a thicker, heavier material than Alpha, doesn't require a layer in-between the insulation and skin. This allows more moisture to move much quicker through the warp knit material. It's almost as warm as the Uberlayer. Thanks for contacting OR, Paul
