Very warm with minimal loft!

This is much thinner than I thought it would be, but it's as warm as I hoped it would be, so I guess that's a win. I'm really happy with this as a mid layer under a jacket that can break the wind and keep me dry. In spring weather, I'm sure it will be great as a jacket on colder nights and days. My only complaint is that small amounts of the insulating fibre seems to be poking out at a couple locations (almost like down). It is really tiny amounts though. I doubt it will cause any problems.

Nice jacket...but strange fit

Really wanted this jacket to fit well. Unfortunately I found medium to be loose around waist while a bit tight across back. Sleeve length great but with arms raised found jacket would ride up my back badly. Wanted jacket for climbing so not a great fit for me. Hood really nice and goes over helmet but adjusts down nicely with drawcord when not wearing helmet. Many things to like about this jacket- super light, fabrics look durable, great hood, nice cuffs and zipper, super packable - unfortunately just not great fit for me.

Hi there, I have looked into this new jacket and it seems very similar to my uberlayer.... I am wondering what the differences is in layman's terms. Is it warmer? More compact?

Hi Patrick, Both jackets are part of our active insulation series. Keeps you warm when you're not moving, and keeps you cool when you're active. The Uberlayer is a heavier, warmer jacket (more insulation) that features a better adaptable temperature regulating insulation (Polartec Alpha). The Cathode jacket is a lighter, warm jacket that features an exposed stretchy area for ventilation (soft-shell material on the underarm panels), it has better water resistant properties due to the Pertex Quantum treated nylon. The Ascendant Hoody is the little brother of the Uberlayer. It's about the same weight as the Cathode, but features Polartec Alpha Direct. It's a thicker, heavier material than Alpha, doesn't require a layer in-between the insulation and skin. This allows more moisture to move much quicker through the warp knit material. It's almost as warm as the Uberlayer. Thanks for contacting OR, Paul
