RATING AND REVIEWS

Great layer

4

Bought this in preparation for Alaska winters and a road trip from NC to AK. Bought a large in order to facilitate layering. I am 5'11 and 180 lbs and the large was a good fit for layering. Had no issues with wetting out in mid to light rain. Good wind management. Dumped heat efficiently. Fit well over my ascendant hoody. Just good all around jacket. Will be buying a medium for more general purpose. The large is too big if not layering. Which. Is what I intended. Looking forward to testing it out in more extreme conditions. Also the night looks great.

I love it.

I wear this every day that the wind is whipping up (which in my area is fairly frequent) and it does a great job of blocking the wind to the point that I don't need any additional layers underneath on days where the windchill would normally require one.

Viva Cordura!

Since I got the jacket last week, I: - Played "King of the mountain" in the rough spring snow with my high school Outdoor Ed students; - Climbed up my front yard's Fir tree to clean a way for my kids to climb it too; - Cross-country skied by -16degreesC - Wore it to work and back every day (6k, spring weather, once light rain) What I can tell: - It is definitly ultra-resistant to abrasion. That trip up the Fir tree and the battle with my students confirmed that to me. - It breathes a lot, which is good for me because I tend to overheat fast. It will most-likely become a year-round garnment for cool summer nights and high output winter days. - The cuffs are really well made because the elasticity makes me able to not pull on the velcro every time I put it on or off. This adds to the durability of the cuffs IMO. - The fit is not very good for me (5'8, 170 pounds). Small was pretty tight around the chest and I am almost floating in the medium. I'll be able to live with it anyway since I wanted to be able to put a few layers underneath. - Chest pockets will be very usefull for climbing and orienteering, but I feel they could have been a little bigger (no space for a standard size map). Time will tell if the mesh inside the pockets is also resistant to abrasion. - Right now it feel absolutly waterproof because it is new but I do not expect it to remain that way. Anyway, that is not really why I got it for. Overall, I think this jacket will be good for many, many years of fun.

Amazing Softshell

This is a great jacket. For outdoor adventures where you need to adjust the breathability on the go (think hiking, ski touring...) this is a perfect fit. The rain is kept at bay for a while too, but it's not going to keep you dry in a downpour. This is a flexible, stretchy, comfortable soft shell, and it's definitely worth the cost. You can layer easily with it, it has plenty of pocket space, and it's a great, versatile item. this is my go-to spring/fall jacket now, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Perfect light weight active jacket

5

Amazing Jacket! I can't believe I've been living without one for so long. Perfect for layering as an active piece and very durable. I was looking for an active jacket that I could layer with and this is it. I was surprised that I will be able to use this jacket in the summer also. Perfect for a DWR jacket while backpacking. GET ONE!

Awesome!

Finally - I can breathe! A closet full of hard shells - even moderate activity leaves wetness inside the shell, which freezes. What fun is that? Wear the Ferrosi Summit with all you need underneath for warmth. Still some wetness behind a pack, but way better than any other shell I use for Cross Country Skiing - even in below zero conditions.

My favorite jacket of all time. Versatility can't be beat,

I walk 8 miles per day. This is my go to jacket with a fleece layer in the cold. Great in wind and light drizzle. You can really hunker down in the wind. The hood protects the lower face and the sleeves are long enough that you can get extra hand protection... But also not to long.pockets are sized well and easy to use. Used it for a year and bought a second to put away when I wear the first one out.

Love this jacked

I love this jacket, great fit, great range of motion, very breathable. It's great for snow and light rain, or as a wind proof layer. The hoodie provides ample space for a helmet while at the same time providing great wind protection. The pockets are well placed and work well with a backpack or a harness. My only concern is with the bendable wire in the hood, mine broke at several points and subsequently ripped a hole in the fabric. I attribute this to pushing it inside my pack without enough care. Despite of this defect I would buy this jacket again.

Exactly what I was looking for

Used the Ferrosi Summit with the Ascendant Hoody for early season ski touring. Just the Ferrosi on the uptrack and in conjunction with the Ascendant on the down. The combination just right for me. The Ferrosi breathes extremely well and kept me dry on the up and down (it was snowing lightly at the start of the tour and I was working hard throughout). The material was light weight, but burly enough for skiing through the trees without a worry. I'm a strong believer in pure soft shells (no laminate or other barrier other than a DWR) and this was the best I've found in a long time. It certainly was not waterproof, but that's the whole point.

I have a Cathode size M that I want to use as insulation layer under this jacket. The Cathode is a little tight around chest and lats/pits. Will a size M of the Summit fit well over the Cathode... given this tightness? I am 5' 9 1/2 160 lbs..long arms and wide sholders and chest.

TR1

Hi TR1, The Ferrosi Summit Hooded Jacket has similar measurements to the Cathode and should fit similarly. We would advise you to size up to a Large. Thanks for contacting OR,

Paul
