I'm dealing with 10 degree weather right now in Wisconsin and I've never bought a down jacket before so this is my first. I've always just done layers and wool. This is a very light jacket for what you're getting. Waterproof, windproof and very very warm. Keeping out the wind here is critically especially with the -15 wind chills we get. The floodlight comes through. I chose this jacket because it's not as bulky, doesn't fit like a parachute, was warm wind+waterproof and because I enjoy OR products/apparel. I weigh 170 and I'm a little over 6 ft tall. The large fits great and it's a little longer than most jackets which is pretty nice. I like the hood's features as well.

Unfortunately, two things went wrong in the first month I've owned the jacket. One of the baffles was never filled in on the front side so I took it back and received a new one. The 2nd jacket I received I noticed the other day when putting it on there was a small hole inside that was created by a thread that came loose my improper stitching or it was just a weak thread. The size of the hole was about an inch long located near where the arm meets the shoulder. I noticed when my finger got caught. A small homemade stitch fixed it right up but this is still disappointing. I've only had it a month.

I own a variety of outdoor research gear and really do enjoy every product. I believe OR's warranty is really great too so I think I will return the jacket at some point for a 3rd because it still bugs me the stitching came undone and I'm no professional sticher/sewer.

I think the quality of the jacket is just fine. However, it's really not that warm. Also, it's noisy and crinkly. I like the cut a lot, however, and it fits me very well. However, it just needs way more down. I mean, in spots, it doesn't even feel like there is any down, just the shell and the liner. Bought brand new from OR, and let it fluff out. I really want to like this jacket, but it just doesn't do the job. Maybe in like 30+degree weather it'd be fine, but just running errands in 0-10 degree weather, it don't cut it.

Comments about OR Men's Floodlight Down Jacket:

Awesome product! Very light yet very warm. I am 5'8", got the medium and it's a perfect length with enough room inside for some layering while tailored to fit well. Breathes extremely well while active and repels water throughout. Has my recommendation!!

Comments about OR Men's Floodlight Down Jacket:

I got this jacket mostly for low-intensity activities as an outer layer and I am impressed with its warmth, weight (or lack thereof), and seemingly high quality. I am 6'3", 205 pounds and got a Large and it is a little tight on me. It does say that it is a trim fit, so that makes sense, but if I am wearing the jacket, it is tough to put on any midlayers below. Basically it is tight if I wear anything besides a t-shirt with it, so that didn't seem great. I am in the process of exchanging for a larger size. Regardless, I still give it 5 stars because in an XL it would be great.

I've skinned in Teton NP in -25*F with this coat and worn it in nuking snow at Mt. Baker, Washington. If its cold and nasty, this coat keeps you warm and dry. Toss some GoreTex on top and conquer the world.

Failed seems x2

Comments about OR Men's Floodlight Down Jacket:

This was my favorite jacket but the laminated seems failed on me twice! This caused all the down to sink to the bottom of the jacket. The first time it took about a year, but the second time it only took 2 days, and I only wore the jacket in the car before it failed! As always OR was awesome, and they let me exchange the jacket for another model.

Great All-around Winter Jacket

Comments about OR Men's Floodlight Down Jacket:

The 2014 version of the Floodlight has been my go to jacket for the last 2 years, and it has performed up to my very high expectations in every way with the exception of the following issue: After approximately 1.5 years of Minnesota winter use, the baffle welds in the back panel no longer hold the down in the designated compartments; the down has largely moved out of the upper back area resulting in a fairly large cold spot. While looking for a new jacket at REI, a very helpful sales staffer pointed out the Outdoor Research Infinite Guarantee and suggested asking the company what my options might be. After one phone call and a follow up email to start the process, I had a new 2016 version of the Floodlight Jacket (the new version apparently addressed the baffle weld failures) in my hands within 10 days; completely free of charge. No hassle, no questions, just send the old jacket back. Extremely high quality response; I am sold on the Outdoor Research brand.

So far so good, nice and warm

Comments about OR Men's Floodlight Down Jacket:

I say so far so good, as the real review should come after a lot of use in a lot of conditions, but first appearance is this is a great jacket. It is more substantial (read-heavy) than other down jackets I looked at, but this is not a bad thing, the Floodlight feels like a warm, reliable, and tough jacket, which was exactly what I'm looking for rather than a whisper-light thing that is a sieve in the wind and tears with every touch of tree branch. The added length is nice and increases the warmth factor, but does require general use of the lower zipper to create some room when you're bending a lot. There is definite pull on the fabric in this area and my only concern thus far is the longevity of the stitching here to these repeated stresses. Other than that, great! The reinforced brim on the hood is a nice touch too.

Comments about OR Men's Floodlight Down Jacket:

I wanted a replacement for my OR Virtuoso down parka and called to find out which was warmer. I was told the Floodlight was by far the warmest OR parka. It is not. It is very cold here in Montana right now and at -11F I am warm and toasty in the Virtuoso but uncomfortably chilly in the Floodlight. If you want warmth, buy the Virtuoso.
