RATING AND REVIEWS

Great Expedient Rain Jacket

5

Effective jacket to take with you if space in your pack is limited. Lightweight and durable. It has proven effective utility on every spring and summer hike. I also take this jacket with me for quick weekend trips where the weather is uncertain; fits easily in my pack.

Exactly as Advertised

5

This jacket is exactly as advertised, very minimalist and very waterproof. The elastic cuffs are great for keeping the sleeves down during physical activity or rolled up when getting your hands wet. The jacket isn't very warm but that is not a problem when worn with other layers and is intended for hotter weather. The packable size is ideal for fitting into day packs and for weight/ size conscious travelers in need of a wind and waterproof outer layer.

Great gear for ultralight pack

5

Purchased it primarily for backpacking, canoeing, and rock climbing but it will see use during the week as a lightweight jacket for work.

Great for cycling

5

I bought this for backpacking while looking for a light and packable rain jacket. I haven't gotten to test it in the rain yet, BUT it's been excellent for cycling as a windbreaker, and stuffs easily into a fanny pack when not in use. The jacket is insanely light. Of course the trade-off here is that it is thin and feels like it could tear if it snagged on a tree branch or something, but if you're just hiking or cycling it's perfect. Would not recommend for climbing (due to thin material).

Sizing chart is not right, they run small

2

I am unfortunately not able to use this product due to the fit being so tight that it will not remain waterproof as intended. I followed the sizing chart and ordered a Medium...should have gone with a Large or maybe bigger if I wanted to wear it over any layers as a wind/water shell.

Great jacket

5

I got this jacket a couple months ago mostly to run in and for backpacking. It has been great so far. I'm in a pretty dry area so it hasn't seen more than light rain yet, but with a mid weigh base layer this jacket kept me warm down to -12c while running. It seems very breathable and it's almost impossibly light. I'm 5'9" 150lbs and wear small OR jackets. I bought this in a medium and it fits perfectly over my Trascendent Down hoody which will be great on fall/winter backpacking trips.

Much Too Short!

1

I ordered the Helium II shell because it's lightweight and waterproof. I ordered size XXL because I'm 6'4". The shell was much too short when I tried it on. Only 27" long! For size XXL?? Amazing fail!

Perfect for all occasions

5

I have two. The original and now this version. I always keep one in the car and perfect for hiking and travel. I usually wear a large but got an XL due to the fact that sometimes the snow turns wet and if I'm wearing my puffy (OR also) I like to use it as a shell. Have used it from North America, South America, Europe, trekking, biking, hiking, walking around town, in warm and cold weather. So far no complaints.

I am 5'7", 200lbs, 45" chest, 18" neck, 33" sleeve, 37" waist. Your product does not indicate sleeve length. I am thinking of XL. What would you suggest?

Rob

Hi Rob, If you plan on layering underneath the jacket a size XL may be best. The sleeve length of the jacket is 37.75", it is measured from the center back neck seam to the center of the cuff (straight measurement). Thanks for contacting OR,

Paul

Hey There, I have a Helium II, and love it! It seems that it is aging (to be expected given the use it gets) and the water does not quite roll off it the way it did when it was new. Do you recommend any sort of waterproofing spray, or wash treatment, to bring new life to my jacket? Thank you!

Kurt

Hi Kurt, Have you washed the item recently? Washing your waterproof gear can drastically improve its performance, as oil, dirt, and grime can actually clog the fabric's pores, causing the fabric to absorb moisture instead of repel moisture. Try washing your jacket with a tech wash (we recommend Nikwax Tech Wash) and following up with a double rinse and tumble dry on low. The heat of the dryer works to reactivate the fabric's DWR, increasing water repellency. You may also try Nikwax TX.Direct Wash-In to revive the water repellent properties. If the problem persists then you may have a defective jacket, which we would be happy to replace. Please keep us updated and thanks for contacting OR! Paul

Have this jacket and love it- but the repellancy seems to be wearing off. What's the recommended waterproofing? (nikwax wash, revivex spray. Etc?)

Rachel

Hi Rachel, Washing your waterproof gear can drastically improve its performance, as oil, dirt, and grime can actually clog the fabric's pores, causing the fabric to absorb moisture instead of repel moisture. Try washing your jacket with a tech wash (Nikwax) and following up with a double rinse and tumble dry on low. The heat of the dryer works to reactivate the fabric's DWR, increasing water repellency. Nikwax also makes a great wash-in waterproofing for wet weather clothing called TX.Direct Wash-In. If the problem persists then you may have a defective jacket, which we would be happy to replace. Good morning, I was wondering if this jacket is pretty shinny or a mat colour? Thank you

Oct

The Pertex Shield Plus fabric we use in our Helium series is a bit reflective - definitely more "shiny" than "matte."

Jordan

How shinny is the coyote brown? Or is it more of a mat colour?

Oct

The fabric on all of our Helium jackets is a little bit reflective, regardless of the color.

Jordan

what is the length of the Helium II in size M? neck seam to hem i suppose.

Thomas

The Men's Helium II Jacket in size Medium has a center back length of 27.5".

Jordan

What is the best way to renew my helimum II jacket's water repellent as my jacket is no longer as water proof as it used to be..

Martin

Try washing your jacket with a gentle, non-residue-leaving detergent like Nikwax Tech Wash and follow up with an extra rinse cycle and tumble dry on medium. After you wash the jacket, you could also use an aftermarket DWR like Nikwax TX.Direct to revitalize the jacket's water repellent coating. Both of these steps should make your jacket noticeably more waterproof.
