I bought two of these; one for me and one for my partner. Each of us uses this product in completely different ways. She- lives in Netherlands, flash rain protection, carries easily in daily bag, stylish, practical. Me- flash protection, combine with warmth layer for versatility whilst traveling, easily stows, lightweight yet durable. She finds the fit true to size, while I believe it is a bit small in the chest and short in the torso. I owe this to the way I use it, but yet a little extra would go a long way. Ditch the weight of the stow pocket and just have the jacket stow into the zippered chest pocket. The velcro closure will wear too quickly with repeated use Either way, we both think this is a fine product that does not leave our daily bags and would recommend to others. BTW, the marketing of this product in the Backpacker Magazine Buyer's Guide was brilliant and the reason I gravitated to this product. I just wish the coupon lasted longer. I have a trip planned to Mongolia for next year.

Being in the Pacific Northwest, I was looking for a jacket that I could wear over a sweatshirt or longsleeve shirt on colder rainy days. Something that I could quickly pack up if the rain went away.

The Helium II handles the waterproofing perfectly. The fit is also great - I bought a XL and, again, usually wear it over a jacket or longsleeve shirt. The fabric is *very* thin, and I worried that it might be susceptible to tears. Sure enough, it sustained a small tear on the second day. So I'm kind of bummed about that - but it still has a lot of positive features.

Comments about Men's Helium II Jacket:

I use this both on the waters of Florida and the mountains of North Carolina. It works well for the most part. In a sustained rain storm it'll leak through, after 15-20 minutes. In short storms this will serve well.

Comments about Men's Helium II Jacket:

I'm very satisfied with the Helium II Jacket. I've found that every time it's been put to use it has lived up to my expectations at time of purchase. The biggest surprise is how breathable it is. I use it trail running, rain or snow, and never feel that it traps condensation. I highly recommend this product for similar uses.

Solid protection from the harsh elements, in a package that packs down to the size of an apple. I bring this jacket along for every summertime activity, from mountain biking to fly fishing it comes in hand in times of need. It's a bummer when you're way out in the middle of nowhere, and mother nature starts to unleash. This shell is small and light enough that i have no excuse not to bring it. It has saved me many times!

Comments about OR Men's Helium II Jacket:

I got this jacket as a lightweight piece of 'insurance' to deal w/ sudden wet weather, mainly while cycling, but also hiking. It compresses well, weighs very little and the hood fits well over a helmet. On all-day, epic rides, it makes me feel a bit more prepared and I know I'm not going to get drenched.

Comments about OR Men's Helium II Jacket:

This jacket works great for work. I go from inside to outside and then back again. This jacket is very helpful because its not bulky and i can easily pack it in my work bag for when I need it. It is not the best for extreme use but thats not what it is designed for. Overall its great jacket to have when their is a threat of rain

Not the light jacket I was expecting

          By

Comments about OR Men's Helium II Jacket:

I bought this because it was initially advertised on the OR website as being a great trail running jacket. I thought this would be a lightweight waterproof/resistant jacket that I could use for more active adventures - running, biking, hiking. I have to say that this didn't meet my expectations.
          - the drawstring broke after only a couple uses
          - the jacket is heavier than I expected and doesn't breathe well = soaked from sweat
          - the laminated construction/seams don't look durable - on arrival it looked as if the seams were already starting to separate (air pockets)
          - the lack of pockets limits its use for everyday use
          - the large hood and stiff material (because of the laminate?) makes it cumbersome to use for more active adventures like running and biking.

Overall, I will happily stick to using my foray jacket. It is heavier, but I know it can hold up in the rain and has pit/side zips that make it incredibly versatile. I think OR's new jackets - boost and tantrum might be more what I was expecting. I personally don't see how the Helium II fits into my rotation. It's not breathable enough for both cool and warm weather (I'd never wear this kind of jacket in SE Asia). It's stiff and lacks more useful features for everyday use. If you want something for an unexpected rain storm or active adventures, look elsewhere. OR makes great stuff, but I wasn't impressed with this jacket. The Helium Hybrid or HD seem like much more useful jackets for this weight.

Comments about OR Men's Helium II Jacket:

Used this jacket on the wet days in the jungles of SE Asia, and while cool is pretty relative when talking about temperature in the jungle, this jacket didn't overheat while performing various types of manual labor. Movement in rain gear has always been a concern, OR seems to have figured that out. Great Jacket.

Comments about OR Men's Helium II Jacket:

This is a great lightweight rain jacket. However, I agree with some of the other reviewers in that it would be even better if it was a little longer in the torso. As a tall and slim person, a little extra torso length is always great!

Comments about OR Men's Helium II Jacket:

OR got this one right. Do not be on the fence about this purchase, you will have zero regrets. Compared to other ultra light rain protection out there, this jacket has exceeded my expectations.

I intentionally bought a larger size (XL) to wear over my layers and everything fits perfectly. I will be buying the pants.

super lightweight and stowable. Goes in my backpack for every occasion.
