Great shell. I use it for cold windy or rain conditions. Love the color for SAR. Would love pit zips next time

I have other garments from OR in XL that fit more comfortably than this XXL. Others also have more features—zip pits, pockets—at same price point.

This jacket is almost perfect! I used it for about a month of heavy rains on the west coast and a couple nor'easters on the east coast (along with a puffy) and it worked fabulously for both conditions when I wasn't pushing myself on the bicycle. However, it still gets clammy when biking for more than about 2 miles and unzipping the front is not an option to improve breathability when the heavens open up. Its a great lightweight and semi-breathable jacket, but the I think the extra weight for a set of pit/hip zips is worth adding. Hopefully OR will come up with another version of this jacket with some ventilation zips!

One jacket for all conditions

I am a professional videographer and photographer working in action sports, but mostly in mountain biking. I need clothing that keep me dry, warm and comfortable so I can keep focused on the creative aspect of my work. Living in the Pacific Northwest, I am sometimes battling rain, wind, snow and sunshine all the same day. The lightweight nature of the jacket is huge for keeping it packable, I can have this in my bag for every single project and know it's there if the weather gets nasty. Fits loose enough for layering as well. While on, it doesn't overheat like most "trash bag" feeling rain jackets. Moisture gathering on the inside of clothing is even more difficult to deal with than it coming from the environment, so its breathability is huge. For what I do, I am always moving, so the stretch built into the fabric lets me ride, climb, hike, and run without any movement being impeded. For some projects, I am also the athlete in front of the lens (see photo), so having a jacket that I can ride in is amazing. Overall, it's a fantastic jacket, and I find myself grabbing it for almost any outing.

This jacket is so versatile. So far I have used it bike commuting and snowboarding and it has breathed well and kept me dry in a variety of NW conditions. At first I was concerned that it would not be durable or featured enough for snowboarding, but the fabric is more bomber than you would think for such a lightweight piece and the cuff, waist, hood, and collar construction are all suitable for any alpine activity.

Awesome jacket - so comfortable!

This shell is great, so light and pack-able that it goes on every trip with me. I love how fast it breathes! I don't get the clammy feeling in this like other technologies. The stretch is great too. OR nailed this one!

Lightweight - check Waterproof - check Breathable - check For me, having a jacket that can do a bunch of things is critical. I'm not spending $300+ on a jacket to sit at the bottom of my pack. This jacket breathes extremely well when going uphill - both on skis and on my bike commute. It's not Gore-Tex, but from what I can tell, this jacket is definitely waterproof enough to withstand a day of Pacific Northwet ski touring in 32-degree temps and snowing (big heavy wet flakes). In terms of durability, it's taken a few SCHWACKS from tree boughs in tight trees and is no worse for the wear. I also like the fit. It's what OR calls a 'trim fit,' which I take to mean athletic. I couldn't put my biggest puffy on under it (but wouldn't expect too), but had no problems with mid-layers, though, with a shell, I usually go lighter on the mid-layer (with the Deviator, this is a KILLER combo). All in all, I'm super pumped on this piece. For the cost, it seems to give the performance of a more expensive Gore-Tex Active shell. I'm 6'1'', weigh about 190 lbs and am a pretty consistent OR men's large.

The Perfect Backcountry Jacket

5

As an avid backcountry skier, this is the jacket I'd been waiting for: a fully featured, fully waterproof, super lightweight, functional jacket. It has the three pockets I need--1 chest, two side--and basically nothing else, which means that there's absolutely nothing extraneous/superfluous about it. That, in my book, is perfection: there's nothing left to add or take away.
