Sweating one minute and freezing the next is only fun when you’re jumping from a hot tub into the snow and back—not while you’re skiing. If the words “ski season” make you think about moving uphill as much as downhill, the Skyward Jacket speaks your language. Air-permeable AscentShell technology keeps you cool and dry while skinning up, and keeps the speed-generated windchill out after you peel off your skins and drop in for the descent.

Fantastic Jacket!

4

I bought this after spending considerable research. My beloved hardshell went "missing" and I was desperately needing a replacement. I really like the fit. I am usually larger than a medium but larges fit too big. This medium fits perfect and I can get a fleece under it. I love the way the fabric has some stretch to it!! The stretchy material ensures the fit is always great for a large variety of strenuous activities. The giant zips are great for temperature regulation. I coach xc skiing and my time is spent between high aerobic output for demo's then standing around observing. The material is much softer and quieter than my old hardshell which is really nice. The Dual chest pockets was a main selling feature for me as most of the jackets I was looking at only had one or none. I haven't had a chance to test it yet in an all day, during continuous rain the west coast is famous for, but the few hours I have spent in pretty heavy showers have kept me nice and dry. So far I am very happy with this purchase.

Beautiful Jacket!

I have used this jacket for the past 6 months for many adventures and SAR callouts and it's a great piece of gear! Used it splitboarding in Squamish and it did beautifully in the show and rain, was really comfortable and allowed me to dump heat easily. Used it again in Squamish for a rope course where it rained for multiple days and the jacket stayed completely dry and the outside dried quickly. This is the most breathable waterproof jacket I've tried or seen and love the torso flow venting for when I'm really running hot. Used it on backpacking and hiking trips on days where the rain was off and on, love being able to open the sides and run the backpack belt under the front of the jacket is nice. The fabric is really soft compared to other Gore Tex jackets, and it's quiet, which is a nice plus. The skin pockets are great and just fit my splitboard skins. Chest pockets are in a good spot and allow access when wearing a pack. Hood brim has worked really well. DWR has been great, hopefully it stays that way for a long time. I wear a size medium and it allows for room for layers and still works well without layers. 5' 8" 75 kg/165lb. Now for a couple minor issues: Issue #1: is having to always check the alignment of the bottom of the main zipper, it must be at the bottom before you can zip the jacket up. Just a little thing that you have to deal with when you have the double zipper feature allowing you to leaving the bottom, top or both the bottom and top open on your jacket. (see pictures) Issue #2: Doesn't fit larger helmets well. I use a Vertex Vent and Black Diamond Half Dome. The Half Dome works well, but the larger Vertex barely fits and makes the neck/chin area incredible tight which makes it hard to move your head side to side. Just for comparison, my Arc'teryx Alpha Comp has a larger hood that doesn't have that issue. Thanks OR! Hope to see more AscentShell gear.
