First let me start with once I received this jacket, I wasn't really expecting much. I opened the package and it was really light weight and I wasn't sure how I felt about the material. I was looking for something to replace my Arc'teryx Atom especially on mountain hikes and for everyday wear with an outer layer in winter So far I have used this jacket on a 14.5 km mountain hike in New Hampshire, a 16.5 km hike in Quebec the following weekend, and almost daily walking my dogs. The first time I put it on I wasn't really expecting much. It was a chilly day and I was carrying a decent amount of weight so I was sweating; rookie mistake, horrible t-shirt under my base layer. I got to the peek and I was soaking wet and the wind was howling. I stopped to put this jacket on with the expectations that I would be freezing from the wind and sweat once it soaked through. To my surprise I was actually warming up and I didn't feel the wind at all. I sat at the top and had a light snack completely surprised with the way the jacket performed. On the following weekend in Quebec the wind was a little colder and I was a little sceptical of the jacket if I had to put it on, thinking the first time was just a lucky day. Again I didn't have my outer layer; it was sent back to Arc'teryx under warranty. Once again the jacket took me by surprise. The last 900 m of the hike was very steep and with my pack on, I was sweating profusely. At the top I stopped to unpack; because it was really cold, and put on this wonderful jacket, boom! I was warm again. I brewed up a tea and enjoyed the view as others were freezing. I am extremely satisfied with this purchase and I cannot wait to test it out as my mid-layer, trudging through the cold Quebec winters. I also cannot wait for my next OR purchase, I think this jacket made me a fan.
