RATING AND REVIEWS

Best on the market.

The OR Whitefish Down Jacket is a great piece for those in cold environments. My favorite feature is definitely the wrist cuffs- they prevent the cold/wind from running up your arms. The coat looks great and is durable. Sizing is accurate (LOVE that OR understands some of us have long arms). I am 6'3" 205 and. The Large is a great fit. Such a good investment I own two!

Light, warm, high end look

Great jacket for "in town" activities, formal enough to be worn with business clothes (not an overcoat, but would qualify as "smart casual").

Perfect winter coat for casual use

I have had this jacket for one winter and it has performed extremely well. It is great as an everyday winter jacket here in Ontario Canada. It also is stylish enough to wear anywhere. If the temperature got extremely cold then potentially an additional layer is required. This is more a casual jacket then an technical one. A really excellent product.

Fantastic, warm, great in Seattle winters, nice urban style

I was tired of being cold all the time, and wanted a down winter coat so I could finally be warm. After a lot of research, I went with this coat (chose it over the Patagonia Wanaka, among others). It is fantastic! It's so comfortable, and instantly warms you up; it feels like crawling into a mummy sleeping bag. You will be much less grumpy about winter with this coat. Temperature: works great up to 50F. I thought it might be too warm for Seattle winters, but that has not been the case at all. It's a lot simpler for me to just throw this on all winter, rather than examine the weather each day and carefully calibrate layers accordingly. In the 20s-40s, it's perfect. My guess it it would work great below 20F as well. I walk a couple miles to work, so if I do get a tad warm at the end, I just unzip it and that works perfectly; it breathes and is not suffocatingly warm. Favorite features: warmth, the lining in the pockets and at the chin, good style. The smooth lining inside the sleeves allows you to put it on or take it off very quickly. It's water-resistant and a light rain will just bead on the surface; I'm not sure if that will last forever, but it's a much more sturdy exterior material than a typical mid-layer down jacket, and holds up just fine in the rain. It is a nice slim fit, so you won't look like you're wearing a garbage bag. My only suggestion for OR would be to add a bit more width at the hips, to make it a more comfortable (less tight) fit at the hips and also provide a more androgynous cut (for women buying this coat). I had an old OR jacket that I was trying to figure out how to repair. When I asked OR about it, they said that the problem wasn't repairable, but they could do a warranty exchange and take the price of the old jacket off my new Whitefish jacket. OR truly stands by their products, in my experience even better than bigger brands like Patagonia or Marmot -- which is impressive and amazing. OR's prices are great as well. I am a huge fan. Highly recommend!

Awesome

This jacket kept me warm in Whistler when temperatures were hovering around 5-10F. Great fit too- I'm 6'1", 180lbs. and a M fits nice- maybe a little snugger than a standard fit, which I prefer. I haven't fully put the jacket through it's paces, but I can tell from the build and material that it is durable and will last!

Have a Large and I am 5'7 179 pds, and it fit perfectly! I live in Quebec city wich come with some temperature around -35 C (today). was outside all day long and was in T-shirt under my jacket and I only had a little chill once! I'm amazed how hot that jacket can be and give me a really great look!

Just buy this coat

This coat makes me feel like I'm in a photo shoot promoting ski chalet time shares....or something. And that's a good thing! The Whitefish is a functional, warm coat that actually looks good enough to wear in the city. It is warm enough for scraping ice off the windshield on sub zero mornings (with layers), and tough enough to haul the occasional load of firewood. The only thing I'd change has been mentioned by a couple other reviewers - add an additional snap or two to the storm flap.

Best jacket I've owned by far, I live in Ontario Canada where temperatures can reach -30 degrees Celsius and I'm never cold with this wonderful jacket. Very versatile, and stylish to boot! 10/10, thanks again OR.

Alaska Tough

I've had this jacket for over a month now up here in Alaska, and it has done very well for me. I bought it to be my beater jacket, but once I put it on I like it so much I treat it like a queen. I love the casual look with the technical design. I'm 5' 9" 165lbs and the Medium fits perfect.

Great Jacket!

I live in Montana and can attest that this jacket is wonderful. Keeps me warm when only wearing a tshirt or any other light shirt outside in the subzero temps. It's lightweight and can easily be stuffed into a pack or bag. On a recent honeymoon to Amsterdam it kept dry during light rain and the cool fog that sometimes blankets the city. Overall great winter coat. A nice upgrade from the huge puff jackets that can make you look and feel uncomfortable since you aren't climbing Everest.
