Ascendant Jacket - Cheap Insulation

Jacket does what it says it is supposed to but I feel this jacket falls short against some of the pricier competitors like the Arcteryx Atom in terms of being windproof, effectiveness of insulation, and overall fit. You get what you pay for I suppose.

Perfect mid-layer!

Just returned from a three day trip in Death Valley, climbing three mountains around 7,000-9,000 feet. Conditions varied from freezing to mid 50s and sunny, with calm to 20+ MPH gusting winds. I used the Ascendant jacket as a mid-layer, sometimes with nothing over it but adding a windproof jacket when the temps dropped too low or the wind picked up. It packs up small, offers amazing warmth for the thin layer, and fit true.

Great Jacket

This is a very nice jacket. It is great to wear right over a tee-shirt. For extra warmth, just add a shell.

Fantastic jacket!

Prefect mid layer jacket. Good to high 30's/low 40's with light winds. Deep pockets (no need for zippers) and thumb loops that are useful. Warm yet breathable.

1 year on and it's still amazing

I've had the ascendent jacket for a year now - and I love it more than ever. I live in SoCal, so this jacket is perfect for the winters here. It wouldn't cut it in sub-freezing temps as an outer layer, though. Great as a mid layer in those conditions. I've worn it for casual use around town, on a few chilly night runs, hiking, gym,'s an amazing piece, halfway between a jacket and sweatshirt - very versatile, lightweight, and smart - it somehow manages to regulate your temperature exceptionally well. Also great at keeping B.O. at bay, have sweat it in and later that same day you couldn't smell a thing. One of the best pieces I've bought recently!

Absolutely love it

Perfect for running in cold weather

So comfy and warm

Such a good jacket. Warm and versatile. Perfect for the crag or casual wear. I'm 6'5" 205 with a 37" sleeve length and the XL fits like a glove. Wish there were pocket zippers and the elastic draw cord was in a different spot, but I'm not complaining.

Thin, light, and WARM

I was skeptical when the jacket arrived, I though it wasn't going to be worth the cost based on weight and density pit it proves me wrong again and again. I currently wearing it to work with a thin long sleeve base layer underneath and a t shirt and I stay pretty warm on 30 degree mornings. It seems to repel water pretty well and is decent against the wind. I'm 5'9'' 195 athletic build and I need to get a large to fit the waist portion though the length is on the long side for me and I wish it was a little shorter, like an inch or so shorter and it was be a great fit. It also seems like I'm in the middle of a medium and large fit bit have to go to large based on my waist which is a 34. Overall great jacket and would get it again, will be my main jacket to run under my she'll this winter snowboarding as it's really really good at regulating temperature so breathability is good to go with this kit.

Very Comfy! It also regulates temperature very well!

Keeps me at just the right temperature despite what mother nature has to say.

Is this jacket able to be packed down to a small size for travel?

Nick, the ascendant does pack down pretty small for a synthetic insulation layer, think a nalgene size

I have yet to find the key clip. where is it??

Hi Lee, The key clip is located inside the left hand pocket. Thanks for contacting OR, Paul

Are the external pockets with zippers? Prior description said no zippers, now pictures look like zippers.

Hi Gustav, Sorry for the late response. The hand pockets do not have zippers The only zippered pocket is the chest pocket. Thanks for contacting OR, Paul
