Big wide brim
I bought a large, and then I thought it was too big, so I bought a medium. The medium I received on line, was larger than the large, so I returned it.

My 2nd Papyrus Brim Sun Hat. I spend a lot of time hiking in the desert and have fair skin, so I want good sun protection with ventilation and durability. The headband has held up to a lot of sweat and repeated hand washing. The brim is just the right width to not obscure my vision whether canyoneering or in the forest. Over the years my 1st OR hat has taken all the abuse I give it: days long sweat, stuffing it in my backpack and carryon, cooling off in stream crossings, repeated washings. Happy that OR still make this.

Lightweight and comfortable. Just what I needed for sun protection.

My husband works outside and really needs protection from the sun. He was noticeably cooler when he wore the hat.

I love OR products, but this item was not khaki but yellow. It is NOT the same color as pictured. My non-politically correct children (ages 7 and 9) immediately said "Dad, you're wearing a girls hat." Even my somewhat PC wife chuckled when she saw it on me. The hat itself seems great, but the color makes it look rather silly. I won't be wearing it.

Got it for a summer rafting trip. The strap will keep it from blowing away.

Use it for wildlife work in the mountains (6,000-12,000' elevation), across the West. I spend enough days outside, under full sun all day, that thinking about skin cancer is a must. These hats must earn their keep, when I get them -- they seem to do that !

I originally bought this hat for a trip to Costa Rica. I wanted a hat to stuff in a bag, but be ready to go in hot/sunny weather. This worked great. The hat survives being smashed just fine and looks good hiking through the forest or hanging on the beach. I liked this hat so much that it has now become my go to hat for fair weather alpine adventures. It is light enough that I don't mind carrying it. Or stuffing it in a pack when it is time to wear a helmet.

Ray
Hi Ray, We recommend that you try spot cleaning it with a clean, damp cloth. To remove perspiration stains, wipe the area with a clean damp white cloth as soon as possible after wearing to prevent body salts and oils from staining the straw. For stains around the sweatband, use 1/2 teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide and 1/2 teaspoon of warm water on light colored straw. For dark straw, use 1/2 teaspoon of ammonia and 1/4 cup warm water. Use a soft-bristled brush - an old toothbrush - and work on a small area - one to two inches - at a time. Clean and then blot with a white towel dampened with water. Allow the area to dry completely before wearing again. Thanks for contacting OR, Paul

Hi Alaina, we recommend that you do not embroider the paper straw material. Embroidering the band or a applying a sewn on patch would probably work best on this hat. Thanks for contacting OR!
