Merino wool has long been heralded as nature's best temperature-regulating fabric. With the ability to hold onto heat in cold temps, manage moisture in humidity or during strenuous activity, and dry quickly in any type of wet environment, there's no doubt as to why we choose merino wool for one of our most important layers: the foundation. For chilly backpacking, mountaineering, or skiing trips, and for humid hiking, paddling, and climbing excursions, the Alpine Onset Collection are the base layers you need to keep your temperature in check. Using 83% merino wool with a touch of nylon and spandex for extra mobility, each Alpine Onset piece features a trim fit as your next-to-skin layer for easy layering and efficient temperature control. A flat seam construction prevents chafing, and a lightweight, compact design makes it easy to fit an extra layer or two in your pack. Plus, merino wool naturally blocks odors - making it an easy winner that both you and your tentmate will appreciate.

Awesome base layer!

Great base layer for ski touring. Nice and warm, and for people that sweat a lot on the hike up is very good at wicking sweat off the body.

Great lightweight top. Is good for hikes on cool days and better as a base layer.

Works great!

The back lettering on the inside rubbed off really quickly. It doesn't effect the outside appearance it's just something I noted. The clothing overall is quite comfortable and does a great job of getting moister away from my body

I'm wearing this right now.

I have a variety of wool clothing. Some of it seems loose to the feel and what I'd only wear to recreate with, others have a tighter weave and a style that is tapered and stylish. This OR piece and it's hooded counterpart fall in the second category. Great warmth, comfort, look.

Works great, and it's comfortable too

It feels a little light to wear alone, but that's perfectly fine. I wanted and breathable baselayer and got it. This shirt is comfortable and the zipper provides plenty of headroom. The collar fits well and isn't tight at all. I find myself looking for more reasons to wear this shirt beyond outdoor activities. Good stuff!

Long Awaited

Being a 6'4" 175 lb dude, I am always struggling to find clothing that fits me very well--especially long sleeve shirts. The Large is the best fitting long sleeve base layer I have ever tried on! It is still just a little baggy around the torso, but not by much, and the sleeve length is spot on. So stoked OR made this line! Additionally, it seems to be well made, looks nice enough for a casual top I have the red & orange), and is very comfortable. So far, I've used it for cold weather trail running, and it has performed well. The zip top is well designed and is perfect for those long runs that start cold and end cool, allowing for good ventilation. The big question that remains with Merino clothing (and that little zipper) is durability, and only time will tell.

Anyone familiar with the 150 weight Smartwool Baselayers? Is this a similar weight or would it be heavier? I'm looking for a breathable baselayer that doesn't stink like my Patagonia capilene.

Mitch

this would be comparable to weight to a 150 weight wool base layer
