Slimmed down and streamlined, the Blackpowder II Pants are an athlete-insisted update to a best-selling, favorite piece of bomber backcountry wear. Packed with the same weather-resistant durability that holds up to the demands of mountain professionals, the Blackpowder II uses four key design elements that hit on every detail you demand from a ski pant: (1) Pertex® Shield exterior wards off precipitation, (2) Polyester tricot upper leg lining keeps thighs soft and warm (3) Taffeta lower leg lining adds durability and comfort to calves, and (4) A 420D nylon scuffguard protects ankles from abrasions against rock, ice, and touring gear. Add to that a ski-specific feature set that will eliminate any hesitation you have on the drop-in; the Blackpowder II Pants are your ticket to tackling a season full of steep chutes with complete confidence.

What happened to the fit?

I have an older version of the Blackpowder pants and loved them. I wore them hard and they stood up to the test. This new pair looks like it has the same durability but I the cut is WAY off and they are almost unwearable. If I wear the pants where I normally wear pants I will split the crotch if I spread my legs too much. If I wear the pants jacked up high on my waist this goes away but I can't use the fly. It feels like the sizing is way off and the whole crotch area is messed up. I suspect I will blow out the crotch in a few months which is a shame.

Great ski pants!!

I ski 5-7 days a week in the East so conditions change frequently. These pants are great! They keep me warm and dry even on the worst days. There is no going inside or calling it quits so I need gear that goes the distance. These pants do just that. My only issue is with the zippers on the outside of the thigh; they get caught on everything and it is only a matter of time before there will be damage to the pants. My other OR pants have the zipper on the inside of the thigh which is a much better placement.

Hesitation eliminating is the perfect description

I have used these pants for everything from long walks through the woods with the dog to skiing up here in Alaska and they are fantastic. They keep up well and don't restrict movement all while keeping my base layers bone dry. 5'11 180 and got the medium. A bit snug around the waist but not problematic at all.

Awesome pants! (Sizing a little off)

The pants are awesome ane very well built. The sizing guide was off a bit. I am 5'9" 165 and I ordered the medium. I couldn't get them over my butt and waist. The large fits and feels a lot better.

For my first set of true ski pants I really like these. Stayed warm with level2 leggings on underneath. Tricot feels soft underneath. Great mobility too. Made my own suspenders. I had the medium size at fists and had to send back for a large. I do wear a 32/34 pant but that makes no sense to be trying to ski in the same size waist so maybe buy one size up.

Recommend Sizing up

Haven't had a chance to wear these in action yet, but just wanted to comment on fit. I typically wear a 33x34 pant, and the medium was way too small/tight in the waist and thigh. Return process was great, and got a large and it's definitely a little too big in the waist, but will be fine with a belt (the built-in adjustment feature doesn't go tight enough). Overall quality seems good, just need to put them to use now!

Amazing ski pants...

I spend a lot of time working outside in the winter, and ski as much as possible. Whether it is taking a hike in the snow or just playing in the front yard, these pants are comfortable enough to be in all day! Highly recommended!

Nice pants but a big snug in the hips for touring

I ordered a medium based on the sizing chart on the website. I was really sold on the design, features and quality build of the Blackwater II, and was impressed when I received them and tried them on. Simple and effective, nice venting, handy little waist belt thingy. But alas! I took them for a short snowshoe, and unfortunately while climbing uphill it became apparent that they were fairly restricting in the thighs, which made things difficult and uncomfortable. No give in these puppies. I tried on the large, and found the same thing, they were binding in the upper thigh. Maybe I am an awkward size, but regardless I had to return them and go for the stretchy pleasure of the Skyward II pants. I'd recommend heading into your local shop to try them on if you can and do some power moves in them first.

Do they still have the knee pad pocket?

Stardude, our blackpowder II pants do not have an option for an integrated knee pad
