RATING AND REVIEWS

Insanely well thought out

I use these pants primarily for lounging around base camp and hunting. While I was hesitant to spend so much money on pants, I figured I just need one pair that will keep me warm in the freezing mornings when I'm stationary in my spot that can also compress down into my pack for when I'm hiking around. Secondarily, I needed a comfortable pair of pants for lounging around camp after putting in miles all day. These are darn near perfect. Too many pants have bulky adjustment straps, zippers, or plastic loops around the waist that dig into your hips when you're wearing a pack with a waistband. These pants are very minimalist and designed so well. I am 6'1" and 195lbs with a 32" waist and the medium fits perfect. The stretchy crotch and reinforced lowers are nice features. The only negative, as others point out, is these pants will not hold up to crawling through sage brush or crawling on your hands and knees for very long. But, if that's what you're doing then you'd be sweating in these pants anyway. The OR gators can be thrown on over these to offer even better protection if your worried about snagging them.

Must Buy Pants For the Cold

5

These pants are a must for cold weather. There are not many insulated field pants out there, and from what I saw this pair was the warmest, albeit slightly heavier. These pants are the best thing since sliced bread for camp clothes and other relatively immobile activities like stand hunting. They can take up some room, but I consider them a necessary item for when it gets cold out. Note: if you are going to tromp around the woods, you will need to wear them under some sort of protective layer. I would not trust the nylon against rocks and thorns.

Tradecraft line is awesome. Wore it all for the last 7 days Goat hunting on kodiak. Very impressed with how low bulk, high warmth this stuff is.

Solid, packable insulating layer for static/low energy

Great insulating later. Warmer insulation and minimally heavier than Arcteryx Atom LT pants, but not as durable as Arcteryx WX SV pants. Right in the middle. I'm 5'9 180# and wear 32" or medium for most things, but in OR I go to a large for my thighs. The large fit over field pants with appropriate room. Great for insulating when you slow down or have to stand/low activity in the cold for a while. Stretch crotch it AWESOME! They are not high abrasion resistance, so if your banging brush they're gonna tear up. These are great for as soon as you're done. Wind/water resistance is good but not outstanding - thats expected and maintains packability). I wore them during windy cold light rain and slush and never soaked through, DWR worked. Only gripe - please add some velcro tabs on the lateral waist so I can keep my pants up! I maxed out the fly closure velcro and still have a little sliding. Suspenders aren't my thing. (also, thanks for including a fly, sooooo clutch.) Otherwise these are awesome!

Good piece

5

I've always been an Arcteryx guy and was considering these or the Atom LT pants. Construction quality of these is on par with any Arc piece I have had. I feel the primaloft gold insulation is a tad warmer than the coreloft in my Atom LT jacket. I also have a set of Wild Things puffy pants. The tradecraft pants are way easier to move in with much less bulk and more packability. Not that I do much moving with puffy pants on, but I would put a hard shell over these if you have to move through heavy brush as the shell on these is biased more towards packability than durability. I also got the tradecraft jacket and it is very nice. The two pieces will definitely get you down to 0F if properly layered and you are not completely static. If you are on the edge of 2 sizes go up.
