RATING AND REVIEWS

Great for colder fall activities

5

This jacket has worked well for morning approaches to climbing crags in the fall. It is not too thick so that you get sweaty. It is not so thin that you are cold. This will work well for good weather winter touring jacket. Or if you combine with a hard shell jacket on top of this, this will work well as a bad weather layer.

My new go-to and favorite all around jacket!

Love! Love! this jacket! I have been wearing and using this jacket since the Spring of 2017 through the Summer and Fall and definitely plan to bring it along with me on all of my adventures this Winter! Since receiving this jacket it has never really truly left my side. It has always gone with me no matter what I am doing, whether I am adventuring, hiking, camping or paddling or just heading into town for the evening. Great all around jacket that is lightweight and not bulky, super comfortable! This jacket is slated as "Trim Fit" so I general would go with a Ladies Large, however, this Ladies large is ample, not snug t all. Even around the hips. Fits nicely and comfortable over all of my Italian girlie curves. I almost feel that I could have gone with a medium? Either way I love it and it's super cozy and comfy. I keep it handy in my backpack and truck for use everyday!

A new go-to layer

I am 5.9" guide with slim hips and a slightly broader back and bigger arms than average which can make a women's size medium often look like I'm wearing my little sister's jacket. Yet, size women's size large is too baggy in the body but the right length in arms and body. The women's OR Ascendent hoody, size medium, is a perfect fit for a change! The superlight stretchy windproof exterior makes it easy to layer, and more versatile than fleece alone. It looks great too!

Surprisingly warmer than I thought

While it's light weight the fleece/windbreaker combination kept me really warm! I think the only drawback is that it's a little long and can bunch up while you're being active.

This jacket does what it claims to do.

This is a great jacket for cooler temperatures on it's own and it's a great mid-layer when going out in even colder temperatures. So far I've used it most for walking the dog in 0*C and lower temperatures. When I have it underneath my other Outdoor Research jackets -17 or -20 doesn't really feel all that cold. I can't wait to test it out when cross-country skiing to see how it does.

Not the OR quality I'm used to...

I was very disappointed in this jacket. The outer shell is made of very flimsy, poor quality material. The fleece inside is even worse. It feels scratchy and of very low quality, not that warm cozy feeling that fleece usually gives you. the appearance of this jacket overall is one word, cheap. I think you dropped the ball on this one OR. Sorry, but mine is coming back to you for a refund.

So soft and cozy!

The material for this jacket is so nice! A little stretchy, super lightweight, not at all bulky. The furry liner is what sold me. It is definitely a slim fit – it's pretty fitted which is nice for wearing underneath a shell but I think sizing up would have been nice to be able to wear a sweater underneath. Overall, love this jacket.

Great Lightweight jacket

Excellent side season jacket. Warm and light weight. Wear it under a shell jacket or on its own while hiking into an ice climb. Fits pretty well, but wish it had a bit more space in the chest area. Also wish all 3 pockets had zippers. Overall pretty great.

Discussions

How do the Ascendant Hoody and the Uberlayer Hoody compare in terms of warmth, breathability, water resistance, fit?

Stillgoing

Hi Stillgoing, The Ascendant Hoody has a little less warmth, much more breathable, and a little more water resistance. The Uberlayer is about an 1" smaller in the chest, otherwise they fit the same. Thanks for contacting OR,

Paul
