Awesome mid layer

Bought this for my partner and she loves it. Super light weight and deceptively warm. Very breathable too. It's the perfect winter later for activities.

I'd buy again

Was looking for light weight and packable—this fits the bill.

The climb a mountain then head to town Jacket

I bought this jacket to replace a mid-layer puffy that I had. I was bit hesitant about it because I was worried that it wouldn't be warm enough or be able to stand the kind of abuse I am going to put it through. So far I cant take this Jacket off! I used it to prepare for a mountaineering trip and while on the trip itself. I have also used it as my nice "around town" jacket and often get compliments on it. It performed well in windy, cold conditions and kept me warm. The hood is helmet compatible which is nice to be able to quickly pull that over if the wind kicks up. I like the fleece layer on the inside and the the thoughtfulness of leaving the fleece off the shoulders as this wear a pack would wear or keep you warmer. I also love that there is a chest pocket. Very practical and functional. The only thing that I would maybe like to see different is zipper hand pockets. I go back and forth with that because having the open pocket means I can put my hands in to warm them up quick, especially given that they are fleece lined. However, I don't feel like I can store anything in them for fear of it falling out. Overall, if you are looking for a hardworking, functional and stylish jacket... this is it!

Best layer ever

I use this as a mid layer while ski touring, and it was amazing, I could t believe how light and breathable it was while also being super warm. There's a fleece ish liner that also makes it super cozy for just hanging out in.

The jacket I didn't know I needed

My new favorite. I was skeptical at first because this thing is so light, and the interior isn't exactly cozy looking. I am a smallish person but usually order medium in jackets since I like to layer a lot. I got a small in this jacket for a more flattering profile and the fit is perfect. I can wear a light baselayer with a thicker merino layer and without looking bulky. So far I have worn this traveling, hiking, and snowshoeing. I even wore it while watching my son's outdoor hockey practice, standing still at 30 degrees for an hour and didn't freeze. I was cold, but I was suprised I wasn't frozen because I usually have to wear my heavy down jacket to do that. I really appreciate the deep side pockets and the zippered chest pocket. One con is that the jacket kind of puckers funny near the chest pocket zipper. It doesn't lay flat for some reason. But isn't a deal breaker for me.

More like a zippered sweatshirt

From the picture and the reviews I was thinking this was a little more substantial. It's a really light fleecy layer with a smooth outer layer. Warm enough for what it is, but it's definitely a mid layer, not a stand alone layer unless it's sunny and in the 40s.

LOVE this hoody!

Bought this for walking/running from the fall thru the spring and for shoveling snow. Every coat I have either makes me sweat and then freeze or just freeze. So when I found this I was skeptical. Have worn it with just my sports bra in 30 degree weather for runs and walks and have been warm. Wore it in 7 degree weather with 15 mph winds with a mid-weight base layer and was warm. This is just what I was looking for in a jacket for cold weather activities. This is not the jacket for you if you will not be moving around. Now if they only had pants/tights for women, I would be set! But seriously considering buying the guys pants!

Feels and looks cheap!

Tried 3 different ones: 1 large and 2 mediums. All had a zipper sewn in a strange way which did not allow it to lay flat. I hated the way it looked on me in the chest area. If you are heavy chested this detail may work well for you. The inside looks like a cheap beat up shag rug. It's not cozy and comfortable. I am looking for a non-down Insulated layer for under a hard ski shell. This was highly recommended. I cannot comment on its performance because I have not used it outside. all three are being returned. Really disappointed as I expected better quality from OR.

Cozy, light, perfect

This hoody is a must have

So far I have only used this on walks around the neighborhood, but I am so excited to make this my hiking staple. My temperature fluctuates a lot, but in this hoodie I am super comfortable.

How do the Ascendant Hoody and the Uberlayer Hoody compare in terms of warmth, breathability, water resistance, fit?

Hi Stillgoing, The Ascendant Hoody has a little less warmth, much more breathable, and a little more water resistance. The Uberlayer is about an 1" smaller in the chest, otherwise they fit the same. Thanks for contacting OR,
