Not for a "climber's build"

By

  • Tight in the armpits

Comments about Women's Ascendant Hoody:

I had such high hopes for this hoody, but as with other Outdoor Research purchases, it's *way too narrow* in the shoulders. I'm 5'6" and 115 pounds. Super lean, but I'm a climber, and I'm no Kate Moss in the shoulders. If I weren't a climber, I'd have given it 5 stars and kept it. But as a climber, it's completely unbearable to have a piece of activewear that's all up in your armpits like this one.

      Comments about Women's Ascendant Hoody:

The warmth of this layer is impressive, especially considering the light weight nature of the garment. The outer shell is relatively waterproof, and can withstand at least the first 10-15 minutes of a heavy rain or snow storm without getting wet. The Polartec insulation is so soft and so warm! This is soon to become my most versatile layering piece in my athletic endeavors. I primarily use this layer as an insulating layer to add over a base layer for warmth, and underneath a shell when its really cold. But this layer can also stand on its own in cold and even somewhat wet weather. I have tested it in -10 F weather, and as my "puffy" layer on a cool summer's night. A must add to your technical wear collection.

This jacket is perfect for running, climbing and biking on a cold blustery day. The outer fabric protects you from the elements, yet it breathes well as your heart rate rises. The inner liner is warm and cozy, and does not trap moisture when I am pushing myself. This jacket is my go to in the spring and fall.

            Comments about Women's Ascendant Hoody:

This layer is one that I can rely on for all seasons. The active insulation technology means that I can move around in it-- hiking, skiing, approaching climbs, what-have-you-- without getting sweaty. When I stop, that same insulation keeps me warm and comfortable, even if it's windy and cold. It's nice and soft on the inside too, and after wearing my Ascendant several times a week for the past several months, the insulation doesn't seem to be wearing or packing at all.

This layers well, and has accessible (and soft!) pockets to stuff your hands in when it's a bit chilly. The hood cinches well over your head, a hat, or a helmet. All in all really impressed by this piece.

              Comments about Women's Ascendant Hoody:

I have the vest version of the Ascendent jacket and it's a great layering piece or something to add for a little extra warmth. The inside is soft and fuzzy and the outside is water/wind resistant fabric that's smooth, quiet and breathable. Mine is a size medium (I'm almost always a true medium in tops) and it fits well though if you're between sizes, maybe size down. Such a nice vest/jacket for variable conditions but especially cold, damp conditions!
