RATING AND REVIEWS

Standard OR gear - solid!

Good jacket for cool spring mornings & evenings! My main complaint is that the color choices are pretty uninspired.

Best hoodie!!!

I got this hoodie a week ago and haven't taken it off since! It holds no smell, breathes, keeps you warm and is an awesome fit.

High tech hoodie

4

I bought this hoody because I had a 50% off coupon. I'm not sure I would have bought this hoody at full price - that's more of a judgement on me, not the jacket, but it gives you an idea of where I'm coming from. I really want to love this hoody, but I think I'm stuck at "I like it". What puts me off the most is the texture of the fabrics. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but the textures just seem slightly rough, like they would just ever so slightly drag against dry skin - you know, like chapped backpacker skin! I find I don't enjoying wearing it with short sleeves, with with long sleeves its fine. Also, the thumb loops are a teeny bit tight, and one is tighter than the other, just enough to be a little annoying. Otherwise, this is a fancy high-tech hoody that will do its job of keeping you warm without keeping you down. I like the breast pocket and the water repelling ability is pretty top notch. These comments are pretty picky, I know. This is a performance item, but it would get 5 stars from me if it was a little more comfortable.

The mid layer jacket you've been waiting for

5

This is my go-to midlayer on cold or windy days, and perfect for mild temps with just a little chill. I wear it for warm ups for pre-dawn runs, but it's stylish enough to wear into town or to the bar. If you're infatuated with the micropuff, check this out instead!

Blue w/purple Ascendant - best sale item of the year!

4

Soft inside, quiet rain-resistant on the outside, I'm hoping this coat lasts a long time as I really like in over the past month of wear. Cozy with the fleece interior but with wind-resistant fabric. It's been a useful comfortable layer under a rain coat; a top layer for more active days. I sweat a lot and the inside of the coat felt pretty wet, though not cold. Time will tell on the breathability factor. Went with the large to have enough shoulder room, and it's kinda roomy for a 5'9, 150 person. Between sizes - not the worst problem! Mid-butt length means no chilly breezes up the back. And despite no zippers, the pockets are good!

Another phenomenal piece of gear!

5

This is a new piece, but it's already proven itself in cold weather, breezes, Oregon humidity, and temperance variances. It fits perfectly, has excellent range of movement, and I LOVE the color. I'm excited to get it out on a rock day, and up on the mountain, to see if I can add to my list of reasons to love it!

Jacket Perfection

5

OR has done it - they have created the perfect jacket. I love this piece so much I now own it in several colors. It's my go-to jacket. I take it traveling (internationally), adventuring (national parks), backpacking (everywhere), skiing, Crossfit, you name it. It's durable and the lining feels great against my skin. Thank you OR!

Great jacket

5

I nearly have one of every jacket OR makes because I love all their gear. Only down side I dislike about this one is I didn't notice the pockets, they aren't zip.

Great, versatile layer

5

Great versatile piece. I wear it alone in dry conditions and as a midlayer in wet or cold conditions. Stylish enough that I wear to work over my scrubs.

Great fit and well made

4

I bought this for spring field work in the mountains but have so far only managed to wear it around town and on dog walks. It takes a fair bit of movement before I find this jacket warm enough to wear on its own in the damp cold of the BC coast, but I tend to run a bit cold normally. The fit is great - I'm tall (5'11) and thin and the medium fit my long torso and arms perfectly.

Discussions

How do the Ascendant Hoody and the Uberlayer Hoody compare in terms of warmth, breathability, water resistance, fit?

Stillgoing

Hi Stillgoing, The Ascendant Hoody has a little less warmth, much more breathable, and a little more water resistance. The Uberlayer is about an 1" smaller in the chest, otherwise they fit the same. Thanks for contacting OR,

Paul
