RATING AND REVIEWS

Really like this jacket

4

I love this jacket-- it has proven to be great in cool weather - ideal for walking dogs- good wind protection - and actually quite warm. The ONLY thing that I cannot understand is why the side pockets do not have zippers... which makes them useless other than to warm your hands up. And okay for extra poop bags - which I always have with me when I'm walking the dogs - but not good for anything of value. (KEYS)

2nd one I bought for my wife.

My wife has never had a good jacket, so I bought her this one, she absolutely loves it. She wont say she likes it but since she wore it everyday this last winter here in Utah I know she likes it. I asked her if she wanted one to take camping and 4-wheeling and she said yes. I bought her 2 more since they were on clearance. Outdoor Research makes great products, I am glad I found them and have been able to pick up some of the other clothing lines as well. I would give this jacket 6 stars if the next version had the lining that is inside on the shoulders all the way down the sleeves.

The Perfect Midlayer !

5

Use it for camping and outdoor rec. Already had the Ascendant hoody - now I have the jacket. Bought both through the website on sale in the $60 range. A great midlayer. Comfortable and warm for its weight. Yet to find fault with the Ascendant.

Great lightweight layer

Super light jacket, great for travel and casual recreation. Haven't had a chance to go hiking, climbing or backpacking yet but feel like it will be the perfect jacket for mild conditions.

Nice basic jacket

4

nice basic jacket. Does not seem to be great for blocking the wind, so I would recommend this as a mid-layer underneath a lighter shell for cool weather, or under a jacket for colder climes. Sleeves are nice and long, as is the torso. The neck zips to a nice height as well - blocks some draft but without chafing the bottom of my neck and chin. Nice light layer that is easy to throw in your bag to keep on hand for when things get chilly

Remarkable jacket for active and leisure activity

5

I gave this jacket to my wife as a gift. She has struggled finding a jacket that suits her internal thermostat. Most jackets offered by other manufacturers would get too hot when she is active and not warm enough during low activity. This jacket somehow hits the perfect balance for her. She also tells me it is the most comfortable jacket she has ever worn due to the soft lining and stretchy outer material. It is the only jacket she wears now and with out coastal Pacific Northwest weather, has worn it every day...so I just bought her another 3 months after giving her the first. She has said it may be the most perfect piece of clothing she owns due to its versatility, style, balanced warmth in all types of weather, light travel weight and stretch fit...and great pockets too. So far, no complaints.

Outstanding jacket in all respects

I am a big fan of Outdoor Research. The Ascendant jacket this is the 5th OR garment I have bought this season, others being the Deviator Hoody, Deviator Vest, Melody Tights, and Melody Zip top. (Getting them on sale was a big help). Great things about this jacket are: it is very light, so there would never be a question about taking it in my pack; it is surprisingly warm - when it's not being a jacket, it is like a super sweater; it is quite breathable, as I have worn it for mountain biking and never got overheated; it is well cut and attractive, no frills and the look is very neutral (vs screaming out that you are a mountaineer). My only extremely minor complaint was that the actual green color was brighter than the picture, which looked darker and more muted. It is a nice color, just slightly different from how shown.

My favorite!

5

My new favorite jacket. Excellent for rock climbing, layering for skiing, and to wear everyday because it is so cozy and comfortable. I wear a small in all of OR jackets, true to size. I love it and want another one!

which jacket is more water resistant the ascendant or cathode hooded???

lulu

Hi Lulu, The Ascendant Jacket will be slightly more water resistant because the Cathode Hooded Jacket has the soft shell under arm panels. The Jackets have both the same DWR Rating, 80/20, however the soft shell under arm panels have a DWR Rating of 80/10. A 80/20 DWR rating is an industry measure of durability that suggests that 80% DWR is retained after 20 washings. In reality this rating is for laboratory test procedure only and is not realistic for home washing. Thanks for contacting OR, Paul
