RATING AND REVIEWS

Great light weight jacket

5

Love this jacket. Makes a great outer wear for spring and fall or a cool evening walk. Can also use as a mid layer under a heavier jacket or shell in the winter.

Excellent layer

I purchased the Ascendant and wore it on a recent climb of Mount Hood. It was perfect - lightweight and small in my backpack, and provided awesome moveable, breathable warmth on the snow before the sun came up. It can take the place of a mid layer and shell.

Incredibly light weight & warm as advertised.

4

Use to layer under a shell. Haven't tested water resident quality.

Great everyday jacket

4

I have been using this jacket as my everyday, around town jacket. The fleece is lightweight and comfortable for next to skin wear. It's warm for the weight and keeps the wind out. I don't agree that this jacket is trim fit; standard fit seems more accurate. The wrist opening seems a bit wide/loose and the thumb loop isn't that comfortable or useful. But overall, I do like the jacket.

Love it. I'd wear it to bed if my spouse would let me.

I actually feel like some other OR jackets have short sleeves on my longer arms, but this jacket fits perfectly. I love it.

Best layering piece I own

5

tried this on per the recommendation of a co-worker and LOVE IT. super lightweight but the warmth is ridiculous. And for strenuous activities haven't noticed a build up of moisture. Great layering piece, and very happy with my purchase.

Great jacket for city to mountains

5

I wear this jacket around San Francisco and in the Sierras - it really does it all. So far it's held up to rain and wind. I'm very pleased with the value - it's taken the place of my once beloved Patagonia nanopuff. You can't beat this mid-weight versatile waterproof coat with for San Francisco's unpredictable weather. I've brought it on a few climbing trips and so far it's kept me warm against the wind.

great coat for different conditions

4

I would give this 5 stars, but the day I got it the stitches on the sleeve started coming undone. I fixed it myself but super bummed out about this. All my other stuff with OR is fine, so I am assuming it is a glitch with this particular coat that I was sent.

which jacket is more water resistant the ascendant or cathode hooded???

lulu

Hi Lulu, The Ascendant Jacket will be slightly more water resistant because the Cathode Hooded Jacket has the soft shell under arm panels. The Jackets have both the same DWR Rating, 80/20, however the soft shell under arm panels have a DWR Rating of 80/10. A 80/20 DWR rating is an industry measure of durability that suggests that 80% DWR is retained after 20 washings. In reality this rating is for laboratory test procedure only and is not realistic for home washing. Thanks for contacting OR, Paul
