Don’t mess with a good thing—unless it’s to add thumb loops. The ever-popular Ferrosi Hooded Jacket just somehow got better. The same tough-but-breathable combo of Cordura on the shoulders and forearms and Ferrosi fabric on the body still block chills and light rain breezy alpine belays and somehow never get too hot. But now the new integrated thumb loops overlap to keep wind out when you’re not using them but help hold your sleeves in place when you are.

I use this jacket for running outdoors in Alaska year-round. I started out with a large, but bought another one in XL so I can layer under it. I'm big-busted and curvy and normally wear a large, but I've found with OR that I need to order XL.

Already a Go-To Layering Piece

I wore the Ferrosi on chilly, damp autumn hikes in Pennsylvania and on a cross country ski in Algonquin Park in Ontario, and it's been an amazing piece to have in my arsenal! I'm 5'9" with long arms, and the large is a little roomy, but I like my clothing a bit looser, and the sleeves are long enough for me to use the thumbholes! I took it on a windy, rainy, 40ºF hike in Pennsylvania knowing it wasn't fully waterproof, but my thick baselayer stayed dry enough for the four hour adventure thanks to the water resistance. The wind resistant fabric kept blasting gusts from freezing my skin, and the breathability helped me regulate my body temperature when my friend and I were humping it up a hill. Unless I got hit directly in the face with a gust of wind, the hood stayed put over a winter hat. Separately, I wore the Ferrosi Hooded Jacket on a multi-hour, single day cross country ski in Ontario's Algonquin Park on a 15-20ºF day with a thick baselayer to see how comfortable it kept me in the snow. I was chilly standing still, but perfectly comfortable while was moving, and was able to use the thumb loops while hanging on to ski poles. The Ferrosi's stretch made it easy to ski without my layers getting in the way.

Comfortable and Cool

I bought this as a lightweight shell to replace an old softshell that was falling apart. Good value for money... I'm 5ft6 with a C-cup and long torso/long reach so I ordered a size L. The L is a good length for me in the arms and waist and the bigger size gives me room to layer up. I liked the many color options on this coat-- more than the normal boring ones for women. I have used it to block ripping winds in southern Alberta (last week it was > 150 km/h in the valley bottom) and in moist ice fog and was impressed with it's ability to keep the elements out.

Everything as expected

This is solid shell and delivers everything a soft shell should though the body size was bigger than large that I tried earlier in different colour.

I love it

I bought the jacket to use it mainly for outdoor climbing. Hood is big enough so you can put over your helmet for wind protection. It is not fully windproof but it cuts most of it. It is extremely breathable and very comfy, lots of mobility. The fabric in the arms seems to be more abrasion resistance. Then, the jacket looks very good!! I am 5'8" and 150 lbs and bought a large so I can layer up, I think I should have been able to fit in the medium size, but this way I can put a down jacket underneath for colder days.

Nice, lightweight layer

5

This jacket is perfect for days when it is almost warm outside and you need a light layer to keep the chill off. The jacket does not provide much warmth itself but keeps the coolness of the breeze at bay. It is very comfortable, stretches nicely and is a great addition for transitional seasons when it is too warm for the heavy duty jackets but too cool to go without a jacket. FYI, it is slim fitting.

great water-resistant windbreaker

Beautifully made jacket! I don't feel constrained at all, and it keeps off the breeze and fog when I'm walking. I'm looking forward to using it for hiking, snowshoeing, and late spring skiing. It was a steal for the sale price, I guess pinot/sangria was on sale because of the bright colors, but a little bit of visibility doesn't hurt! It's cute and feminine. If you'd like room to layer under this, I'd suggest sizing up. I'm 5'4 and 110 lbs and can fit a lightweight fleece under the size XS, but not anything lofty. A fuzzy or thicker fleece might just squeeze under it, though not a puffy. The hood is good for keeping the wind off of my neck and ears, but does not go far enough over my face to protect it from a drizzle. I guess that's what ball caps are for.

Love this jacket! I wear it as a light layer while hiking or rock climbing. It is durable, yet moves with me.
