RATING AND REVIEWS

Loved the lighweight material but way too short

2

I wanted these for hiking and bike packing but they were way too short. I really wish OR would start offering Long sizes for women's pants. I basically can't wear any OR pants. I'm 5'9 and have a 34" inseam. I returned them so can't speak to their functionality, but they are nice and lightweight.

No petite AND no way to cinch the ankles for shorter people

1

I usually love outdoor research and wanted to love these pants. They are half the weight of most others. But there is no way to cinch the bottoms to make them wearable for shorter people. A 29 inseam usually hits me perfectly, so if these really were 31, they should not be swimming on me. But they are at least 6 inches too long. At least with other brands that don't have petite, I can fasten the Velcro or snaps at the ankles and wear them. These have none! And they are wide at the bottom. Very disappointed!

Helium packable pants

Rain pants are a must in any backcountry trip in the Pacific Northwest and New Zealand but often spend the day in the pack. I got these for my wife when she got tired of wearing my old cycling pants and she loves them. They don't weigh anything at all so she never has to wonder if it is worth bringing them and they are surprisingly durable so far.

Yup - You Need These

I bought these pants to carry in a lightweight running pack for emergency storm situations. Turns out I had to wear them in dumping rain, hail, and thick, thick Wyoming mud for 7 hours straight. Despite being thoroughly coated in mud, they remained completely waterproof and comfortable for the duration of the run. I then balled them up, threw them in a wet pack and left them there for 24 hours before I could wash them. They washed up just fine. Love how packable and light they are for running (don't want the extra pockets others requested), they work great and the fit is perfect. I'm 5'5" with a 26" waist and 30" inseam and typically wear a size 4 in OR. The smalls fits perfectly - tight enough to stay put on the waist but enough room for running tights and/or shorts underneath.

Lightweight and comfortable.

These are really nice pants. I wish they had front and rear pockets and a little more room in the rear end. I have an average female build and if I was a little more curvy they would fit weird. I'm a size 6/8 and I bought a size large. They are a tiny bit big but when I do a huge leg lift I need the room.

Perfect walking in the rain pants

Great for walking in the pouring rain. SUPER lightweight and packs up really small in my backpack.

Great pant but not for cycling

4

I have a Helium jacket and love it for it's weight, packability, and performance so I when my old cycling rain pants died I thought I'd give the Helium pant a try. I was very sad to find out that it wasn't going to be a good match for the intended use. The fit around the torso is great but the legs are too wide and too short to function well as a cycling pant. I'm debating about keeping them for other uses: camping, walking, etc as otherwise they are a great product.

Size and fit guide in numbered sizes, but the product is sized by small, medium, large, etc. What is the correct sizing for these pants?

I'm wondering if these pants are durable enough and allow enough range of motion for a 14 mile round trip bike commute? Or is there a different product that would be more appropriate? Thank you!

jen

Hi Jen, While it would get the job done, I would recommend the Women's Aspire Pants if you plan on riding in the rain (or need ventilation). The Gore-Tex Paclite material would be much more waterproof than the Pertex Shield found in the Helium Pants. Plus, the Aspire Pants feature 3/4 length, dual separating zippers that will help ventilate when you need to exhaust heat. Thanks for contacting OR,

Paul

How durable is this product? Is it meant for the occasional casual stroll in the rain or can it's waterproofing withstand days of heavy rain? How does it do with abrasion? I plan to use my rain gear in a desert environment where I might need to scramble a bit in them, putting them at risk to contact rocks on a regular basis. Are these pants up for it or should I shop for something more durable?

Brooke

Hi Brooke, I would recommend a more durable pair of rain pants. These pants are lightweight, packable, waterproof, and extremely good for flash rain type situations, however, they are not the most durable pair of pants. I would recommend the Aspire Pants, they are made of a more durable nylon, 3/4 length side zips (vs no side zips in the Helium Pants), and use Gore-Tex Paclite 2L vs Pertex Shield+ 2.5L. Thanks for contacting OR!

What size = women's size 4 pants? Sm? M?

Steph

I'd go with the size S. You can find more information about sizing here: https://www.outdoorresearch.com/us/en/size-and-fit

Jordan

It might depend on your body type too. I wear a size 4 pant and am a ruler shape. The waist on the size small was just a little uncomfortably tight. I exchanged for medium, and it's much better. In my experience, there wasn't a lot of size difference from small to medium.
