Love it!

Love this product. So comfortable and functional. I use it for just about every season, as a layer or on its own. 5/5 would buy it again and again

Great active top!

Wore this hoody for the first time today for a 5K Thanksgiving fun run. The run started before the sun came up and there was a little breeze, this top blocked the wind and provided enough warmth. When we started to run, I was able to unzip the zipper for ventilation, and felt like it breathed well. Love the bright green color. Has convenient zippered chest pocket, and sleeves are long enough to tuck hands in if needed. Think this hoody will get a lot of use this winter skate skiing and running.

Great hoodie!

I have never had a hoodie that stays on my head with my hair in a pony tail. This hood did not even come close to falling off! It seems there is extra room to accommodate for a pony tail. I was able to run my entire route and never had to pull on the hood at all. Also, the fabric seems to be windproof and water resistant. I was dripping sweat, which I do not usually do, which tells me that it is not super breathable. It is very comfortable and once again, being able to keep my ears covered and stay covered is huge. I will buy another one of these.

Awesome Jacket!

This jacket gives you a layer without even feeling like you have a jacket on! It is super lightweight & very breathable. Perfect top layer to wear if you are hiking or running when it is that changing of seasons time. I have worn it once hiking and camping and can't wait to wear it on a trail run. It is a slim fit.

Lightweight But Warm

5

I wore this as a middle layer or top layer while hiking in Rocky Mt National Park. Morning temps were upper 30's to low 40's and as a top layer I was comfortable. I needed a top wind proof layer over this hoody when winds got gusty at high altitude and the temps were in the 30's. Love that I stayed warm with light layers for a change. I tend to have trouble staying warm.

Ultimate lightweight upper layer

The Whirlwind Hoody is an excellent lightweight piece that I use for summer and winter activities that involve aerobic exercise. I pair the Whirlwind with a Gauge t-shirt to make up my base layer system. Both pieces breath well and dry quickly. The Whirlwind fabric is soft and comfortable, but still durable enough to withstand abuse as my outside layer. I have put mine through the test with 100+ days in the mountains and it is still holding up well. The Hoody feels almost like a shirt, while doing a good job functioning as a lightweight jacket with it's wind resistance, light water resistance, sun protection quality and most essentially, a functional chest pocket. I can fit the medium size iPhone 6 into this pocket. Because I use my phone as my camera, GPS and tool for route notes, I want to have easy access to it, so I am stoked on that chest pocket! The fit is loose enough to be comfortable, but also styled well. The only thing I might adjust to it is to make it slightly longer, but overall the length is good. It generally stays under a harness well and moves with your body comfortably. I am 5'8" about 145 lbs, and wear a medium. The Whirlwind can be stuffed into it's pocket and then clipped to your harness, which is convenient if climbing without a pack. I highly recommend this piece!

AMAZING jacket for trail running!

4

LOVE this jacket! While I'm usually a Medium, I was torn between the M and S for this jacket. Went with the M, and although it originally seemed a bit baggy I don't notice that anymore. I've used this jacket all winter long on trail runs in the PNW--chilly (30s-40s), rainy, breezy runs. This jacket does surprisingly well at repelling water (at least small rain drops--wouldn't call it waterproof), and I've stayed surprisingly dry on rainy trail runs. I love the fact that this jacket is light and breathable so I can stay somewhat dry without getting too sweaty. And it packs down small so it fits in my running vest. I'm also looking forward to using this jacket in the summer as sun protection if it's not too hot out, and as a light windbreaker on alpine climbs in the PNW. The reason I gave it 4/5 starts was that the seam was coming apart when I got it--just seemed like the two pieces of fabric around the torso hadn't been completely sewn together, but I loved the jacket too much to return it so I just stitched it up and it's good as new. Haven't had any more problems with the stitching so I'm guessing it was just a fluke in production. Overall an awesome jacket!!

Best layer for trail running

If it's chilly, windy or raining lightly, I bring this trail running. It's super breathable, and keeps me just warm enough without turning into a swamp (I run hot). I'll also wear it in place of a long-sleeve wool or tech shirt running- it just breathes better and fits nice and loose around my torso.

The Go-To Alpine Jacket

5

I'm a glutton for fast and light alpine adventures. On these exploits, I found the need for a lightweight softshell style jacket, enter the Whirlwind Hoody. I have put this jacket through the wringer with countless 14'er splitboarding missions (splitmo), technical mountain running ridge traverses, and a ridiculous amount of alpine climbs. With a quiver of jackets at my disposal, I find myself always grabbing for the Whirlwind Hoody. It has stood up to the abuse of chimney scum with ZERO holes and 100% function retained after more than six months of non-stop abuse. As part of the #ORInsightLab, OR provided me with the Whirlwind Hoody to review. The full review can be found here: http://thrillseekersanonymous.com/2016/07/21/outdoor-research-whirlwind-hoody/.
