Max spent his early years living in the Ivory Coast on the west shores of Africa before moving to Seattle, WA, at the age of 6. His first interaction with snowboarding was from a distance while skiing the nordic trails at Snoqualmie Pass, WA, at age 10. Instantly drawn to the sport, he was hooked by age 11 and hasn’t looked back since.

Max spent his early years building his freestyle skills while lapping the park at the Summit at Snoqualmie ski area and was active in the rail contest scene. As he progressed, he took the skills he learned in the park to the Cascades backcountry and a natural transition to snowboard mountaineering eventually took hold. For the better part of the last decade, Max has spent his time exploring the rugged peaks of the North Cascades and the surrounding volcanoes and has multiple snowboard descents on each under his belt. Snowboard mountaineering is now his full-time profession.

Max is currently attempting to be the first African American to climb the Seven Summits/Explorers Grand Slam (7 tallest peaks on all seven continents and trekking on the North and South Pole). He has completed climbs on 3 of the 7 (Denali (N. America), Aconcagua (S. America), and Kilimanjaro (Africa), and is currently planning an attempt on Australia’s Mt. Kosciuszko.

Passion Project

When he’s not snowboarding or mountaineering, Max donates his time to The Service Board, a non-profit that empowers underserved, underprivileged, and under-represented youth through outdoor adventure, social justice, service, and community by “pushing their growing edge.” He also coordinates trail cleanup efforts in the Cascades throughout the year.
